Tesoro vaq or xp deus

If I use a VDI machine, or something with notches like my Fisher CZ7a Pro, I can find nickles without listening to pull tabs. Just too many pull tabs in my neck of the woods to worry about missing gold rings in their range. I did recently find a small gold ring with the DFX. It was showing a VDI of 35, (much too low for a pull tab). With the Fisher F-19, if it reads a solid 58 it is a nickle.

Odd shaped gold jewelry (not round) will give jumpier ID#s. If you dismiss ALL pulltabs you may well miss some gold jewelry, such as a bracelet, cross, necklace, earrings, etc...

If your hunting grounds have a good percentage of gold rings to pull tabs, It might be worth your while to dig tabs. Where I am, the park is also used as a fair grounds, with pigs dropping tons of tabs every year. After I cover the whole area, I might go back and start digging trash, but for the time being, I am busy enough without doing that. I don't detect for an income, I do it for fun. After pull tab, after pull tab, on and on, the fun is gone.

True, you have to say 'enough is enough' at some point. I found a 7.6 gram 14k mens bracelet a few months ago, ID was all over the place depending on sweep angle. I try to dig all signals in low to mid conductor range, but after awhile it does get real old, so I revert to digging the solid 50-70 range signals.

My hunting buddy uses the Deus, and I can tell you that it is a awesome machine. It is still surprising me each time we go out....not just its impressive separation but also the impressive depth it gets here in bad ground even using the 8" coil. Honestly, it is probably one of the best relic machines out there right now. I just think that comparing it to the Vaquero is like comparing the AT pro to the CTX.....they are in different classes and don't even appeal to the same customer In most cases. You will not regret a Deus if you learn how to use it. The ground is very wet here right now, allowing us to get better than average depth on targets and on our last trip I witnessed him dig a .69 cal 3ringer at a measured 13" with the Deus using the 8"coil. Deepest bullet with a VLF I have seen except maybe a Blisstool or Nautilus.

I wouldn't have any problem at all hearing that big a bullet at 13" with my Tejon in wet soil. I would need the 11" x 8" coil - I'll admit it, but I would still have a lot of beer money left over for the cost of a Deus! :occasion14:

I guess we all have different levels of what we are willing to put ourselves through to find gold.

I don't mind digging tabs that means there's a better chance of gold! Especially if I'm at the beach!

True Terry, if we don't want to miss ANY gold we really need to dig it all! (above iron at least, lol.)

Thats why i have a Tejon....and a Sovereign GT, for the price of a Deus.
My Tejon airtests 16-17" on a .58 cal 3ringer at 8 sensitivity....

I don't even want to think about digging a 13" whole, I thought the idea was to get out and have fun.

It's funny how gold sounds just like lead...

copied and pasted the following, this is a guy's reply on the other forum and i must say i totally agree with him.-- Mega
I do own 3 old Tesoro machines, but they are never used these days, they had been great detectors in the 80/90s especially here in the UK as every machines folks used had been a Tesoro machine ie like the Silver Sabre 11,Laser B1 and B3 these machines had been the must be seen with machines of the day,but that was over 20 years ago.

We are in 2016,and what was a prominent force detector brand back in the 90s i can honest count the number of Tesoro machine that i see at a large 3-400 people rally on one hand or on a good day both hands, that is how times have changed and about sums the Tesoro demise up really. These days the barometer for how good a detector brand is goes to the likes of the XP Deus camp and the new Nokta range of detectors.

I am afraid the Tesoro or UK Laser brand name is no longer a front runner more like at the back of the list, mainly the older machines are still being used by the old die hards that dont like change, but alas i do change with the times and a Tesoro machine would certainly not appear on my detector wish list,i very rarely change machines as i like to learn them inside out and fully understand what they are telling me,in the detector arena you cannot stand still using the old ethos of how good the companty was 2-30 years ago or how good the products had been.

Lol I can't believe anyone with a Vaquero avatar would post such!

As a Tesoro owner, I would love to go to that event... With only 5 or 6 Tesoros out of 400, Just think of the advantage I would have! :laughing7:

hey, that was just a realistic reply i read. it is correct in saying that they are not popular. yeah, some of us like them. on the face book groups when some ask what would be a good first machine. i always say a tesoro. when i was asking, no one mentioned a tesoro to me. i stumbled across a 53silver youtube video about them. thats how i found out. at a club hunt last summer with 88 people, only 2 of us had tesoros. the other guy had won his in a contest. more than half, id say, used at pros. with the popularity of those, one would think they would have come out with a machine comparable with those certainly by now. tesoros do work well but their just not an appealing looking machine, compared with all the other choices out there. does not matter how well they do work. this guy is right, you just cant stay stuck in your former glory. being innovative and keeping up with the times is appealing to people. the cold hard fact is tesoro seems unable or just plain unwilling to do that. i am willing to bet more at pros have been sold in the past 5 years that all the tesoros models combined during that time. with decent machines and the best warranty in the business, has any wondered how and why that could be? with credentials like that and excellent customer service, one would think they would be a leader in the whole industry. instead of the small following they have now compared with the other companies.

Honestly jld66, do you even here yourself? It is not enough that Tesoro builds a great ANALOG detector that works very well, with a LIFETIME warranty, now they have to win a beauty contest as well? Terry... Better give me one of those official hurt feelings forms, he called my Tesoro ugly!

As far as being stuck in the past, or riding former detector glory... That is just your opinion, and the poster you quoted. The real problem is, in our culture commercialism and materialism has trained us to expect something "new and improved" every three months. Maybe that is why Tesoro is doing so well in Eastern Europe, where the quality, simplicity and warranty are enough for the hobby.

As far as innovation... In my opinion, I hope Tesoro never changes! I like the nobs and switches. All I think they should do is release a new machine every now and then with features that Tesoro fans have come to love. Give us a Cortes/Deleon/Golden with GB in disc. Bring back the Pantera, with its awesome tone break and adjustable notch feature but put it in the new style housing. Create options from features that the company has already mastered!

That's all!

Did you read post 192, that's from Europe. You say you don't want them to change. If they don't I would worry about there future. I wonder how long a lifetime warranty is good for if the company isn't around?
