Went out yesterday late afternoon, (Yes in the rain) :o . Covered the XLT and went to work in a field that has produced many coins from 1800 to early 1900's. I always bypassed a swampy area in the lower end. Since I was already wet and had the high boots on, I decided to check the area. Glad I did, after finding a harmonica reed and some brass shot shell ends, I hit a solid + 90 Signal. Out of the mud came my first Trade Dollar.

I wouldent sell that coin for 1000 if i was starving to death, awsume coin to actually dig up

That is fabulous, Smokes, absolutely fabulous!! When I saw the picture, I was scratching my head wondering what coin that was. It sure didn't look familiar. ???

Welcome to TreasureNet. You started out with a bang!! :o :o :o

Congrats on the find! This is one of those times when it was good not ding the target with a digger huh?!!! Never heard of these before, but real nice to look at. Was this a plowed farm field, or just a grassy field? How deep?

Great find!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I do not think it gets any better in silver than that. That is the pinnacle :) :). Nice photo too.

Congratulations.

ah... I hate to admit this ... but I've NEVER heard of a trade dollar. Clearly I'm ... let's say .. ignorant. :-[

Me either! :P I had to get my coin book out and investigate! :D

That has got to be one of the best finds I've ever seen on here! Absolutely stunning! :o

Many congrats and welcome to Tnet!~ Nana :)

Based upon that strikes intended useage and considering where you found it (as said already, NOT couterstamped or cut) I'd say this is an amazing find. Hell, finding ANY SanFran struck coin out east is fairly rare. Let alone one intended to leave the continent.

Absolutely incredible the more I think about it. And in that condition it has to have a great story behind it being dropped.
What is the history of that spot? You say there have been many 1800 coins found there? Pleasure Grove?

Awesome and very rare find, SmokeDaddy!! I'm sure you're ecstatic about finding that coin... :o ::)

Glad you made it to the banner! Rightly so!!
