Went out yesterday late afternoon, (Yes in the rain) :o . Covered the XLT and went to work in a field that has produced many coins from 1800 to early 1900's. I always bypassed a swampy area in the lower end. Since I was already wet and had the high boots on, I decided to check the area. Glad I did, after finding a harmonica reed and some brass shot shell ends, I hit a solid + 90 Signal. Out of the mud came my first Trade Dollar.

WOW ~ that is AWESOME!!! I've never known anyone to dig a trade dollar before! SWEET!!!!

I don't remember anyone on Tnet posting a Trade dollar before. This is definitely BANNER-WORTHY. That is a coin that many of us will never find!

Keep the fever high, man!

What an awesome unusual find. I've never seen one of those before. It is a beauty too!
Congrats on you BANNER find.

WTG, I don't recall ever seeing a Trade Coin posted here or elsewhere. That Beauty is in Great shape ;D

The symbolism on that coin is remarkable. I've never taken the time to look at a photo of a Trade Dollar before, this is fun! The liberty figure is offering an olive branch (offering peace) and her bushel of grain represents a surplus of resources for trade or sale. I just can't believe how beautiful that coin is. It's a dandy!

Smokedaddy...congrats on a sweet coin!!!! As the now Irish Treasure Tales ( :D ) stated above that is a beautiful coin in its design. This one looks like it never made it in circulation in the Orient, for which the coins were designed for, for there are no chop marks on it. Most of the merchants in the Orient counterstamped the trade dollars with "chop marks" and some of them got counterstamped quite often. The trade dollar is also heavily counterfeited so be wary of those you see on EBay and discounted in coin stores. I forget what the weight of a real one is supposed to be(?) 29 grams maybe?? but a small digital scale is a must for anyone that is gonna buy one so they don;t get ripped off on the many fakes out there.
Congrats on the banner and I am evious of that find for it is rare find and one nice coin...GREAT job!!!

ah... I hate to admit this ... but I've NEVER heard of a trade dollar. Clearly I'm ... let's say .. ignorant. :-[

She's beautiful!!! Congratulations!

I'll have to look her up via Google and see what I've been missing! Definitely Banner material!

I'd like to know how many other people have dug a trade dollar! I bet there's much more people that have dug a gold coin! VERY VERY EXCITING!!!!

Re: Cleaning Buttons...Advice needed

That is a great find. Like others have said before, I have not seen or heard of a trade dollar being dug. It is also unusual to find a coin that old with a San Francisco mintmark in this part of the country!

Congratulations on your BANNER APPEARANCE!!!

Fantastic find...it's a beauty!! Congrats!
