Small Rock Crusher Question

After searching for materials for a while it dawned on me that I have an old arrastra that I used to run my cons with mercury through. 26" in diameter and 3/8 steel and a nice angle iron frame. Now i have to decide on shaft, feed and classifier placement. I think I will put the shaft slightly below center. I cannot come up with a decent idea for a bottom classifier so am looking at building similar to the firstone you picture Dave. The feed will go on the back or drive side. I have a 1/2 horse craftsman motor but its like 2500 rpm probably too fast. Will post some pictures when I go pick up the Arrastra.......Bob

I read somewhere not to put the classifier at the bottom. It will take a beating and become damaged. Put it just past the bottom ( 4 or 8 o'clock position ) depending on rotation. I don't have experience with this but with plans on eventually building one it seemed reasonable.

That and it would be apt to plug up pretty easy. I also have the hardened steel grates from the arrastra which would make great hammers but would be a pain in theass to set up so I am planning on carbon steel chain. Just spent the morning running the mortar and pestle and have pretty much gotten to the point of diminishing returns. Time to start this project!
