Season 4

Did that second diver lose all credibility or what?! I fully expected him to go into the war room and at least defend his findings of apparently detecting some sort of metal down in the pit. However, all he did was pretty much mimic John Chattertan as if his own dive did not occur. I mean the narrator brought up the silt material potentially blocking Chattertan's efforts to detect anything down there, but the Laginas didn't even try and figure out what happened? Did the second diver scan the 40" casing, or perhaps his own equipment by mistake?

Overall, it was a disappointing episode. Also, the whole rock on another island scene just seemed odd, especially since it was probably filmed weeks before the dig. No mention of it in the war room, just like the railroad spike and all the other side shows. It's filler material that would've been fine for Seasons 1 and 2, but just seems out of place here.

I haven't seen the most recent episode yet, but I'll post a review that I read of it. You know ... just to kick at a hornets nest.

Meanwhile, The Curse of Oak Island delivered another in its endless series of boring episodes about drilling pointless holes, but in so doing it stopped to share false claims about Henry Sinclair, the first Earl of Orkney. They are the same false claims that have been repeated over and over again, but it is worth listing the fake facts that are repeated so often that many mistake them for history:

•Fake Fact: Henry I Sinclair, Earl of Orkney was a member of the Knights Templar. Fact: The Knights Templar were disbanded decades before Sinclair was born. There is no evidence of any contact between Sinclair and any former Templars.
•Fake Fact: Henry I Sinclair, Earl of Orkney sailed to Nova Scotia in 1398. Fact: The claim rests on a bizarre interpretation of the Zeno Document, a Renaissance hoax. In the 1700s, Johann Reinhold Forster identified the document’s Prince Zichmni with Sinclair in a bid to glorify Scotland. The text, however, was silent on such matters. It stated that Zichmni traveled to Greenland, where he lived out his life. By the end of the nineteenth c century, Sinclair partisans had begun to argue that Sinclair (or his son Henry II) had reached America. Frederick Pohl, in the mid-twentieth century, claimed that Greenland was really Nova Scotia in order to bring Sinclair to Nova Scotia specifically, from which he became attached to Oak Island.
•Fake Fact: The Mi’kmaq worship Henry I Sinclair, Earl of Orkney as the hero-god Glooscap. Fact: This is another invention of Frederick Pohl, who misread a Victorian collection of Mi’kmaq stories and mistook them all for tales of Glooscap. Based on that misreading, he imagined Glooscap had parallels with generalities about Sinclair’s life, as reconstructed by Pohl. I imagine that at least some Mi’kmaq must be insulted that the History Channel keeps claiming that they ignorantly worship a white guy from Scotland as their god because they were too dim to distinguish between white people and deities.

Based on these fake facts, the Lagina Brothers have become convinced that Glooscap was Henry I Sinclair. Consequently, when Terry J. Deveau, the head of the New England Antiquities Research Association—a fringe history organization—announces that a rock that somewhat resembles a face is in fact a carving of the god Glooscap because of its supposedly distinctive and pure Mi’kmaq features (as opposed to, say, every other Mi’kmaq in the world that it could be, if it were a face), the show concludes that the carving is a representation of Sinclair, who, of course, was not a Mi’kmaq but a Scottish man who served the Norwegian crown. Deveau is described on the show as a historian, but his education is in acoustics and astronomy.

Raparee - I dont want to ruin the totally awesome episode but you pretty much sum up all the useless dribble that ate up the second half of the show.
Ya, that rock looks like my grandpa too. Does it mean he was Glooscap? Guess what, he was pointing at OK a lot during his life. The were reaching really out there lat night. Rick really gets excited easily. I think he totally believes this Sinclair/Glooscap/Templar stuff.

Yeah. Stating the Mi'kmaq and Penobscots "mistook" or originated the Gloosclap creation mythos based on an European tourist is like stating folks in Michigan mistook Gerald Ford for Paul Bunyan.

You can look at Gerald Ford and be pretty sure he didn't form any mountain ranges or scoop out any rivers by hand. And the latter is even more credible because Gerald Ford can be placed in Michigan.

By around 1,000 AD the locals had interactions at L'Anse aux Meadows and knew Europeans bled and died and were mortals.

Awesome analogy Charlie! Don't you like how they have to "paint" the features on these rocks so they look like what the show is trying to sell?

Have to say the forums on here and the several pages on facebook are all saying the same thing. Oak Island has turned into a boring flop and alot of people are losing interest.
I will be suprised but not shocked if they do another season. After all the kardashians are still going

Thank goodness I have a DVR. I am so sick of them "re-hashing" everything after each commercial break that every 5 minutes of the show is spent with 3 minutes "re-hashing" what led them to that particular spot! It drives me friggn' crazy - thank goodness for my DVR! I figure for every hour of the show - 30 minutes commercials and 15 minutes "re-hashing" what led them up to a particular point in the search. Not bad - 1 hour of real searching can be spread out to 18 years for the show! Thank goodness for my DVR!:laughing7:

At this point it's like watching Gillighan's Island. You KNOW they will not escape but it is fun to watch.

Too bad there weren't a Ginger and Mary Ann

In tonight's episode: Skipper is lowered into 10X.

And of course, no concrete evidence will be given. Rick will come back and tell Marty that after extensive research they found out that FDR was obsessed with Oak Island. Marty will say "very interesting", and then it'll never get mentioned again (similar to the Francis Bacon story).

So, where do you drill in the MP?....
This should be relatively easy. This photo shows Chapels shaft where he found 'chapels vault'. Which is 'meant' to be over the original money put. Surely there are enough reference points on this picture that would allow it to be placed over a modern map of oak island and an accurate GPS worked out of the exact location that this shaft was... Dig there... This should at least be over 'chapels vault'...

oak island3[2].jpg

Which by the way I think was probably the Halifax companys tunnels dug in the 1860s (same way they though they had found the vault when there core sample showed them Chappels sons tunnels)

Ya it looks like a lose lose situation. With 200+ years of searching it seems like you will always find some kind of wood somewhere in the MP. Who's shaft was it or who's tunnel was it. Might never know.
WIth all the money they spent, couldn't they pay a satalite to do a comprehensive scan to show whats underground? They have found pyramids in the desert and jungles like this... why not the vault if it is down there?

Yeppp Sexy female diver would add some spice to the show....

Hubba Hubba! Like on Treasure Quest? Dont mind that show. At least it has a lil eye candy!!!:laughing7:

Once again another show where nothing was done.. The first diver gets hits on the metal detector.. The 2nd diver gets none.. So solution is not to send down a third diver (Which they had there) but to pack up and go home.......

Which implies the 2nd diver thought the 1st diver was full of crap and could not use the metal detector.

It is like when in the drained swamp and got the metal hit that Marty tried to find with the digger. Bald dude finds a small hit. Marty comes in and digs a swimming pool size hole. Small hit goes missing. What was wrong with using a shovel. Surely the detector would of given some indication of what depth the metal object was. No wonder people do not want treasure seekers coming on there property with MDs...

Back to the latest show..... How does the 2nd diver today know the metal detector did not malfunction.. Maybe the batteries were flat. I cannot believe they did not send down their 3rd diver (who was sitting in shed) after running an equipment check on the MD....

These divers are well known professionals. How can they agree to be shown to look like a bunch of weekend divers who cannot even work out basic things like using a metal detector. Was the first guy just detecting his own equipment or was the second guy not using the equipment correctly.

Solution send down another diver do not just pack up and go home.....

That rock thing was such rubbish... Looking in the general direction of Oak Island so therefore must be a clue to the treasure...... Arrgghhh.

Didn't Chatterton go down exploring, then Huntly with his detectors and then Chat again? It looked like that from what I remember. Too murky to do any digging or chipping of the rocks? I think they gave up because it was something natural not a man made treasure like the Arc or Pirate Treasure. That's what they want to find.

They do pack it up early an awful lot. Oh my, it's getting late, let's call it a day. Sun looks to be at about 2:00. What do they do, 9 - 2 with a 2 hr lunch? Work a whole day, you might find something!!!

That is funny!

They cant find anything. If they find anything the pre dates the mid 1600s. The gov can legally seize the entire island. They know this. Thats why they are ***** footing around. They know whats their. But they cant bring it out

Shows what you know. Go read the detailed Oak Island treasure trove act. Signed by the brothers. Which states any artifacts found will belong to the province. Why do you think they have dropped most of the other theorys amd have started to push towards a 1700 date. Do some ****ing homework
