Just read an article about this motel on Rt.22 in Murrysville being demo'd. Had a public pool from back in the 50's and was built to replace another motel from the 40's.

Part of the movie "Kingpin" with Woody Harrelson was shot there. They're starting the process now with an interior clean out and demo is set to begin the end of this month. Anything else I dig up, I'll add to the post.

Sounds like a place you should get to quick Al!!

Let us know if you hunt it and what you found!

The original motel in a postcard and an aerial view of the current motel.

It's a pretty good sized pool and I can see a fence around part of it. The building behind it is the poolhouse and the motel sits back alone. Lots of grassy area.

I googled and searched for John's motel but came up with nothing and in the old aerial photos from the 30's it wasn't there. But the pool has been there from the 50's through the early part of 2000's. Could be some goodies there if nobodys detected it...??? Gonna shoot for this weekend if I don't have to work.

Hi Al, I know this thread is years old but I am staying in Murrysville today and my family used to swim at the old Blue Spruce swimming pool in the 1961-1963 period. It had a cyclone fence around it, and I believe a family we knew were “members” of the pool. There was a grass or dusty parking lot next to the pool which sat atop a slight grade. Very crowded on weekends in the summer, and I think we had to pay an entry fee. So it was clearly a private establishment and differed from the public pools we were used to. We had just emigrated from England and I believe we subsequently heard that the pool was “segregated”, as in no Black families were admitted, even though it was the early Sixties, and at that point my parents stopped going.
