Season 4

This spike did not come from any ship. I hope that in 2017 the brothers will find treasures or give it up. I am tire of them in not finding any treasures. Good hunting and good luck.

Narrator:

A templar's cross on Oak Island ?
Is-this a proof that Henry Sinclair was drinking a bottle of wine in Oak Island ?
Or it's just X marks the spot on lot 31 ?

Happy new year to all !

I love this show :occasion14:

I agree that it appears to be a railroad spike but has anyone talked about that long plank that was found? That seems to add some possibility that it is a ship's remains. Maybe the plank was discussed already in this thread. It's too long for me to go through it all.

One plank I would attribute more to flotsam coming in from the sea than a ship. Especially one that size that would be a very small boat; rather than a ship. If it was 6" thick I'd begin to think "ship".

These gentlemen are holding a ship's plank.

When it comes down to a "Ships Spike"... Is Bigger Better!

A Rail Road Spike (invented in 1832) was of a size 4 " to 6 " in order to lay track.

A Ship's Spike was much longer.

How long is the Spike in Episode 7?

Just caught Episode 7 last night. I have to say, the 'Spanish galleon' spike claim has to be the shows most ridiculous moment since Pulitzer showed up with his fake Roman sword.

How long is the Spike in Episode 7?
Considering the near Average Width of My Fingertips... 3/4"

and guessing his 4 fingers in this pic
are covering about half the length.
I'm going to guess that one is approximately 6" long

or more Likely Standard guage 5 1/2"

Close ? 2 3/4 + 2 3/4 ?

I never trust that guy who said this is a Spanish galleon, the narrator has more credibility :laughing7:

Even more fun than the spike....

Thousands upon thousands of board feet of lumber have been used on the island for one thing or another...Just how slim are the chances that ONE board would be from the deck of a ship and not one of those other thousands of board feet? Not believable in any way....

Yep.. Not just that.. Why isn't there heaps of rubbish in the swamp. They must of cleaned it up. I cannot believe that over 2 hundred years of treasure hunting and no one has dumped a single piece of rubbish/metal in the swamp..

Fred Nolan has been there a long time and owns the other end of the swamp and probably between him and the Blankenships have kept it clean over the years... I doubt anyone seriously thinks that spike or board is going to lead to much. It's a TV show, so they have to hype it up more then normal.. Not sure why everyone on here makes a big deal out of what the show does along the way... yet keeps watching...

My frustration with this show is that even if no significant buried treasure exists, you'd hope that at least something of interest would be found with all the digging. However, after 150 years of treasure hunters and excavations going down over 100 ft, the island has been completely picked clean. I basically have to sit there for an hour just to see a railroad spike found in the swamp. Heck, I bet that thing has been found several times by various treasure hunters and just tossed back into the swamp since it has no significance.

Going back to my frustration, I bet if the brothers picked any other island in the vicinity and dug 150 ft deep, they'd probably find something of more interest, since at least these areas haven't been inspected to the 10th degree by multiple people. Heck, I bet if they dug just 10 ft deep in a neighboring island, they'd have a better chance of finding old pirate loot than on Oak Island.

My problem is Not they they Found Wood, Nails, a Railroad Spike , Whatever.

My problem is they Don't call a Spade a spade,
& instead try to scam their Treasure Hunting Audience.

all I can say is I watch because it is a treasure Hunting Show
& like seeing everything they Find !

But Don't play me for a Fool !

all that does is make me wonder who they are trying to scam ?

The Contributors ?
I believe that is a Crime ain't it ?

Every treasure hunter that has been on the island has told tall tales to keep their investors happy and for them to keep giving money to continue the search. Some of what has "supposedly" been found over the years may have been planted for this reason.. gold chain, piece of cloth with part of some lettering, etc etc...

After all this, I would still respect Marty and Rick if they come out after the series ends and say that they did everything they could to find treasure, but it is their opinion that none exists on the island today. If Rick comes out and says that he wishes he had additional funding to further inspect 10X, I'd lose all respect for him. Let this be a definitive investigation with no loop holes left for future speculators to exploit.

I can understand how Rick would like to explore 10x with it dry. I know they had an expert diver down there and maybe he spent more time down then they actually showed on tv but still seeing it dry is the only way to know for a fact that there isn't something there or possible clues etc....

That's fine, but they'll probably have 5 seasons under their belt by that time. They fiddled around with that pit for 3 seasons with multiple divers, and finally managed to get someone down there. In contrast, Dan Blankenship inspected that cavern multiple times by himself 40 years ago.

I understand that it's a TV show and they want to extend the dig over multiple seasons, but some of the decisions made make zero sense. For instance, they brought in that one diver with a tank strapped to his back. The guy could barely fit inside a horizontal 30" pipe, but these knuckleheads went ahead anyway and tried to get him to the bottom of 10X, even though they knew there was an obstruction inside the shaft blocking the path. When they did the bore holes at the money pit site and supposedly hit the top of the Chappel vault, they basically called it a day and that was it. How about putting in a couple of additional somewhat inexpensive bore holes to see if you can dimension the darn thing? Also, even when they finally got a permit to excavate that mini hole earlier in the season, they hammered in a couple of steel rods, found nothing, but still wouldn't rule out it was a shaft. Not to mention the narrator making a big deal about a former lot owner from the 1850's (I believe Samuel Ball) actually dropping one of his coins in his back yard, as if that's a big deal. "A coin in the lot owned by a former slave?" Huh, what?!

I still think they could pressurize the shaft and vault to drive the water out...

At 150 foot deep that is about 5.5 atmospheric pressure at sea level or just under 82psi, anything over that pressure would drive the water out of the cavern. Since the reported sea level measurement is about 30 foot less than the ground level of the shaft itself, that lowers the pressure to around 68psi...easy enough for a human to handle with either psi measurement. Volume of air needed would be more of a problem than pressure, but could be doable. Submarines do it all the time, plus are able to drive out water from a leak with just a few pounds more pressure...
