I really thought the possible British camp site was interesting and a significant find.

I imagine Fred Nolan must of found other evidence of the British being there in order to have formed his theory.

Personally I do not think the Laginas are making up evidence by the very fact of the almost no evidence they have found. If they were going to plant stuff it would be something better then a railway spike and piece of old wood. There lack of evidence is what to me gives the show its credibility. A faked show would of found more stuff... The problem is just how much they are dragging out there limited findings.


It is interesting that the early British presence does adds some weight to Joy Steele theory (have been discussing this in another thread here). Her claim to some degree is illustrated in the comments section after the below referenced blog article. This is in response to a structure found under the ground in Smith Cove. She believes the structure being discussed was the same as others seen in British navy Tar Kilns of the age prior to the treasure hunters arriving at the pit.

This was done by the English. The smoking gun was the little wooden box found only 3 feet below that structure. It was called a box funnel in antiquity and let the pine tar course over it and into the waiting barrel. It had neither skids nor a tow affixment and therefore was not a sled for hauling away debris. The notch at the back is there as box funnels had and there was even black pine tar still clinging to the object when found. The dowel in the side was once a spindle to prop the bucket funnel up in front of the kiln, I also have photographic evidence to back all this up. The structure around is identical to the shoring up they would use in the eighteenth century around these kilns right down to the inclined timbers used. John if you can email me I will show you there is no mistake. Naval stores and especially pine tar and pitch were of paramount importance in the age of the wooden boat. That's what they were doing there, I am sure. 100% sure.

I remember Marty briefly mentioning this theory in an earlier season (do not remember which one) and dismissing it in the same breath saying something along the lines that he has seen no evidence to support her theory. Well I suppose the (possible) confirmation of an early British solider presence here is some supporting evidence for her theory.

I have never read the book so no real idea on the plausibility of her theory. Has anyone here read her book?...

I think one of the big problems is that all artifacts found on Oak Island are assumed to be either put there by the treasure hiders or the treasure seekers when Oak Island has had a long history of human activity that has had nothing to do with the treasure.

I do not know where they find all the 'kooks' I really hoped they would get that investigative journalist researching the descendants claim. I was disappointed to see the descendants story and the cross raised again with no attempt to check its validity. The guys claim that Bacon buried the original copy of Shakesphere's manuscripts is up the with the other wacko with his Roman sword in my opinion.

Even the brothers looked like they were rolling there eyes when he opened his mouth.

I really hope that they do some attempt at classifying the supposed claims in order of plausibility and investigate the plausible ones in more detail.

The black dirt they pulled out of the cavern and gave to Dan who smelled it and concluded it was rotten wood seemed pretty laughable.

I suppose it is possible that the cavity is the same one that people drilling in the pit discovered so there is a slight possibility that wood was left from some earlier hunters when drilling it had fallen into that cavity but I would not be holding my breath that the diver will find anything man made in the new cavity not put there by current or previous treasure hunters...

I like the pine tar rendering concept. Also possibly there was some distilling of turpentine on the island. Both were vital commodities that were easiest to produce where the trees were.

Would depend on what trees were indigenous at the time.

Where I live was cleared bare of gigantic hemlock forests for leather tanning.

He walked right to the location, dug once, and located the stones........in both situations.....

That is the "Research" that has led to actual finds from historical discoveries.....what we see after that is filler, as they know from History what really happened there and are building their case on the "Mystery", while all telling Half Truths.....

Now for Petter to find this all related to Bacon, and to have this guy come in later and then try to re-propose the theory....

....after Petter was banned from the Island by the Oak Island Enterprise for appealing for a Special Places Act form the Canadian Govt. is clearly an attempt to cover up the evidence that has benn shown on their own show,........


They are acting as if they don't know that it's already gone......they bought their shares in 2007 AFTER Petter found this all in 2003.......

so now you see what they think they will find after robbing a researcher of his discoveries....they want to bring home the Bacon......

the same way they are moving into New Ross to take over the discoveries and years of research .......

A simple explanation would be:
From a set point...at a set time...take a bearing on a set star in a Constellation.
Have a small mirror tilted at a set degree.
Walk towards the star on a fixed line.
When the star appears in the mirror...stop and place a Marker Stone.
Repeat with another star until you have numerous Marker Stones and can form a Triangulation from these.
Choose any Apex as where your "X" can be placed and dig your Vault, knowing that you can always locate this spot again by repeating the same procedures.

If you were on Oak Island at the Triangle set point, at the Fall Equinox set date and time, with a Mercury Trough fixed on the Constellation Stars passed down by Sir Francis Bacon, Issac Newton, and Washington Shirley, you too could find the locations of these treasures.

This theory is up the with some of the other highly questionable ones on oak Island IMHO.....

The readers digest article was what motivated the brothers.. I do not think the History channel decided to pay for the search because of this forums discussions.
