Where to begin? I wasn't going to get out today. Thank God I did! My buddy and I got into a new permission and in the back of their property they cleared a big section of brush and trees. So we started out back. We found some decent stuff nothing crazy. Then I found a large cent, my buddy found a King George 1st copper. About 2 minutes after he dug the KG1 I dug a button. At first I though it was British. It looks like a crown in the middle. Then I saw rattlesnakes and counted 13 dots on top.

I didn't want to get too excited but when I got home and busted out Don Trioni's book Insignia of Independence. I was anxiously turning the pages until I got to the rattlesnake button section. Damn I just dug the best button I've found to date!! A Revolutionary War rattlesnake button!! Bucket lister!

Don’t u love finding buttons that u have no clue about till u look em up!!? Nice recovery!!

I bought the Don Trioni Insignia of Independence book 4 years ago. this is the second time i've got to use it. I found a French 41st regiment button about 3 years ago. besides that i pull it out and drool over the items in the book...lol.

You won't see another one like this posted any time soon, wow and gotta say it, Banner from me!

It's a great find! That style is a lot less common than the others.

Out of all the Rattle Snake button's I still think this is the coolest !! Great Save :occasion14:

I have to agree with you. I love the liberty cap on a pole in the middle.:occasion14:

SSSSSSSSSuper find

I had to come back and look at that button again. That’s a bad boy find for sure. Banner vote submitted. Good luck!

Thank you! much appreciated!!:icon_thumleft:

What does Albert's say about the button? I can't find any info on it besides the Don Trioni book.

It doesn't give any information other than the following description:

PC 14 The Liberty cap on pole with coiled rattlesnake, 13 stars above; 1-piece; 27mm.

I noticed that your reference gives the size as 21mm. I wonder which is correct?
On a side note, does your book show a pewter button from the First Maryland Extraordinary Battalion(maybe regiment)? If so that is the one my brother found and at the time was one of two examples known.

I can't find my calipers to measure my button. i will find them later. And yes it does list your brothers pewter button.

Pretty sure this the first of this version we have had posted on Tnet, so if that's anything to go by, which I think it is, then it's pretty damn rare! CONGRATS

Terrific find. Super rare and historic. Thats going to look nice on the top row. Banner vote from me.

Congratulations. A bucketlister for sure.:icon_thumright:
