Ok, this wasn't this past weekends find but it was last weekends find.
Thought I would do a little detecting up on the mountain here in Alabama.
But I found out it might still be a little early. I was just a swinging away in the woods
when all of the sudden I just happen to look ahead of me a few extra feet and there
he was, one big ugly timber rattler. Well since I had not found anything else that day
I tied him to my detector and went home. (after I hit him in the head with a club) ;D
Then I mounted him this past week, and it turned out pretty good..
Sending a few pics. Please be careful out there, those no shoulders are moving
around.
Bandit

Beautiful mount Bandit....I nailed one for a hat band and planned to keep the rattle coming off the back of the hat....Damn cat ate the the button's off,9 of them >:( I used to mess around with taxidermy, mostly deer, not much time for it now.

Nice job on the mount looks really good.
Just beware if your coil starts making a rattling noise!
good luck and be safe.

LoL! Very cool. I nearly stepped on a little garter snake mding on Saturday in Northern Michigan. Not quite in the same league!
Like that mount!

Not in the same league, but you pucker just the same.

As far as snakes go...that is a gorgeous snake. Just wouldn't want to tangle with him or his kin folks.

I think it looked nicer alive, but what do I know.

Thanks again everyone for all the good comments.
I don't really like walking up on these guy while I'm detecting.
My mind is on finding something in the ground not on it.
And for BootyBay the snake is in my shed, the wife don't want him in the house! :'(

Nice pics. I have seen 2 timber rattlers here (both while playing golf). It's illegal to kill em here. They are beautiful creatures and with non stop development, declining in numbers. HH

If You've ever clubbed a rattlesnake and tied it to your metal detector.......You might be a Redneck!

(Sorry Foxworthy, had to give that a shot.) ;D
Just kidding, sweet snake and nice pics! JJ

You wouldn't get me detecting there if it was laden with Gold Coins just lying on the surface :o brilliant pictures by the way

That one would have required two clips full from the old Glock. Nice mount, captured his smile really well!

Cool mount, did a good job on that one. Just out of curiosity, what did you stuff it with to get the full body mount?

Now this was a cool post! I would of soiled myself walking up on that snake. :o
Great pictures and fantastic job on mounting him. That came out great!
My great grandfather was a taxidermist too. That hobby always amazed me.
Congrats,
MM

Man.. You had a great answer for the the "Well dear, did you find anything??" When you got home!!! Ironically, I permission for a property yesterday.. and the lady was telling me they have killed two since they have been there.. 5 years.. this is in Loudoun County... glad I wear headphones while I hunt!!

I'm with you buddy. The 3 detectateers were out for a mountain bike ride some years ago when we came across a timber rattler that was twice the size of that one. I always wanted to catch one. I have caught just about every other type of snake Pa. had to offer. As I was holding that monster I was in awe of its rough beauty. Seeing the whole picture and realizing the valuable niche they play in the biological picture I couldn't get myself to kill it. They play a major part in balancing out the rodent population. Needless to say I tossed it away from me where it slithered away unharmed.
