This we bought at an auction. We knew the elderly couple. They dealt a lot in antiques. They had moved in with their son due to medical issues. Their house kept getting robbed. So the family finally got together and all the stuff was taken to the fairgrounds for the auction. Man they had a lot of stuff! Lucky for them, the thieves didn't know much about antiques. They were just stealing stuff to make quick cash for drugs, I suspect. Anyway, we both liked this and got it for $350.00. We are totally clueless if it was a good deal or not and it doesn't matter. We were more into helping them out. We have had it for 5 years and I don't know if we should leave it as is, or have it restored? Or maybe professionally cleaned up?

Find out what it worth before you have it restored. One time on Antiques Road show this couple showed up with a desk,as I recall, and it had once had that black almost tar-like varnish. They had taken it and had it "restored". New finish.
As it turned out this piece was colonial, and had been worth a fortune. But removing the original finish had shaved several thousand dollars off its worth.
Not saying your piece is colonial lol. No idea. It's neat.
Just pointing out it is not a good idea to restore very old things usually.

HBP,

I tripped over that site also....he seems to have only 1875 and earlier items and the prices are mostly crazy. I suspect WD's are newer vintage say early 1900's.

His is pre 1910. Antique period. Not sure whose definition that is, may pertain to cigar store Indians alone.
From what you can find, WD's is as you said.

Treadmills are kinda tricky. Just got back from the fitness center and saw this on. I've never fallen but kinda felt for this guy.4a2812d0b2a5640aa116c4f882d38c1b.gif
