Now that is cool! I wasn't paying close enough attention, and just see now what is going on. The pewter type metal points at it being a counterfeit, but what's interesting is I think the person made the dies in reverse, but manage to get the date right! That's why I first thought brockage error because I thought the bust side was correct. If that was a 1700s George II or III halfpenny the collectors would love it! I don't think you'll see something like this too often.
 

no the date actually seems backwards also on it, I cant read what the numbers are, best i can guess is 1818. It cant be a mold (because why stamp the other side) :dontknow:. And its not as though it would actualy pass for currency either, being backwards and all. and the print is not raised, its pressed in.

I was thinking the last digit was zero. But if it looks backwards that makes more sense.
 

this is a counterstamped LC .
M.TIDD WOBURN
Marshall Tidd was a gunsmith in Woburn Mass who outfitted civil war regiments.was told only about 50 known to exist by Mark Parker.
Value back in 1991 about $250. now? maybe more?

OK, here's one for ya. Why on EARTH would someone counterfeit a modern Sacagawea dollar coin??
it boggles the mind!! it must be more expensive to make it than it is worth in the end! it's not like it's a special date or mintmark or something. But I've actually come across a few of them now.
