I am so happy tonight as I got permission to hunt a home built in 1836. The guy is trying to sell it and is in Florida. No one lives there.Within 1 hour I had three Indians and a 1919 Wheatie. The Indians were all at 4-5 inches. The 1866 looks brand new and it's the oldest of the three. No silver, yet. What was the production dates for the Indian pennies??

UPDATE FRIDAY JULY 4TH 10PM EST. Just got back in from another hunt. 5 clad pennies, 1 1976 dime, a 1944 merc, and some kind of copper badge with an animal in a trap. Don't know what it is. Also found a ring. Has some inscription on the inside but can't read it. I broke it with the shovel diging it out at 6 inches. The merc was at 4 inches. I'll try again tomorow

UPDATED SUNDAY NIGHT AT 11 PM EST First of all Got permission from the owners daughter today to hunt, not the realtor . I got in a few hours to hunt but have a lot more ground to cover. Need help identifying the button and the chinese coin??. A few cherry wheaties and a few memorials. Back Monday afternoon to do some more. PS PICTURE is from 1907. My Grandmother (95) let me borrow this book on the rich history of this small town. Lots of pics and more good ideas of places to hunt.

Check that 1866 out, that clip at the top might be from the Mint and is a possible error type coin and collectors might pay an even higher premium for that coin!! Congrats on a super coin and try to find someone who has experience in error coins and see if that is one!! Congrats!!!

I had mentioned that in my original post. It's just the way I took the picture. I believe I cut the top off by accident. Good eye, though. Thanks

That 1866 is so awesome. You have to be SO proud. I can only dream of finding something like that. (I'm really jealous!) Please keep us posted as to what else you find.

Re: 0ne little, two little, three little indians . Oldest is 1866

Wow, talk about a nice IH! I spent half the day with the ACE and all I got was one wheatie, $4.00 in clad and a sunburn. That is an exceptional find.

Re: 0ne little, two little, three little indians . Oldest is 1866

Usually when you find a nice looking IH it's an earlier 1900's. You did great with a mint '66! :)

Usually it's the sandy soil that produces the nicest looking coins. In Ohio that's not that common.

You should be able to find a lot of nice stuff there. Keep us posted.

Man, that '66 is suberb! I don't know if anyone mentioned this yet, but I have found most of my Indians have read as Zinc pennies in the ground with most detectors I have used, some bounce from square tab to zinc. You can find allot of neat stuff just digging all but the iron signals, that is if the place isn't loaded with pop tabs and bottle caps.

So did we get back to the spot yet? Let us know if so...good luck

Re: 0ne little, two little, three little indians . Oldest is 1866 U update 7/4/08

Just my luck. Rained all day and is raining today. I slipped in a short hunt last night. A 1929 wheatie and 5 dimes with the oldest being 1964. No silver. Digging was a mess as we had a quick 1/2 inch of rain in a short time while I waited in my car.

Like BB said, 1964 is silver. Check the rim and you own't see the brown stripe indicative of a clad coin. It also probably came out of the ground looking different from the clad coins.

Just looked at it. It's a 1965 My eyes are not to good as I need a magnifying glass and wear reading glasses. Missed it by one year.

It's a beauty of an 1866. The fact that you pulled 3 I.H. cents out of the ground means there's a whole lot more there!

HH with that place! I got 'remote permission from New Mexico' for an 1845 house thru a realtor call, but the best things I found were part of a hatpin and an 8-pound wedge for splitting firewood.

The 1866 indian head penny looks to be in awesome shape! You can practically see all of the detail!!! Good luck on hunting the rest of the property! Keep us posted! ;D
