Believe it is carved.

While I don't see it, you have a neat find. Looking forward to other opinions!

Carving marks...anywhere?

Sorry, it is natural, no signs on it of being worked by man.

the fact that its surface (back side too I am assuming) has a uniform, not patina, but "crust", is the give away here. That and the fact that were it native made you wouldn't have to guess and it would be obvious to EVERYONE.

maybe obvious to you BUT not to everyone. Guessing is part of discovery at times and, IMO, wear could take away details or sharpness of an object.
I never said it was native made (hinted) but if it were native made doesn't mean it was a great artist. Could have been a child, beginner or a sloppy or bad artist. Not all native artists were a Picasso.
Or could have a certain amount of erosion.
Sum it up: I disagree with you.
A lot of finds in the field are not always obvious.

Signs of being worked by man would still be there.

you don't realize it but you made my point.... were it made by man, we would ALL agree.

Granted you have as many others see shapes, figures, that resemble living objects.
Once a person realizes the pareidolia
Effect it becomes easier to figure out items.

lol! I may have that effect disease but I think it’s carved . Someone told me I had an imagination and I do ! lol
I think in the white spots there are carvings , I see crosses numbers , and what appears to me as a faint crown on left and right white areas ,
Did you find this on a large rock ? If so I believe it like a puzzle piece to a certain area that is mapped out on the large rock and this is a puzzle piece .
If you can find a position it fits in your hand on the edge facing you there may be more carvings you’ll find, and these are small get a magnifying glass &flashlight? Look at it good .
It may be nothing but I think it is.just don’t go skip it across the river ! Lol here’s a link to a good read it’ll get you thinking ! If some one hid something it wouldn’t be easy to find or cypher or anyone would find it!I believe that there is no way we’ve uncovered a fraction of US history and it’s secrets !
Remember don’t show your hand! Locations & finds ! keep most info close and to yourself ! Do a lot of research!
