LOL ...a couple years from now the big manufacturers will have
detectors that will blow everything out of the water that we have now , and all our big fancy detectors will be yesterdays junk :P
Just look at Computers, cell phones , etc.....same thing ;)

Doozis

You're kicking some butt with that SE ~ SWEET!!! You know I'm a White's guy ~ but who knows? Maybe some day I'll sell the two $10 gold coins, and 300+ silver coins I've found with my XLT and go buy a Minelab?! LOL

;^)

I am a Whites owner and one that thinks it is the best, but under different situations or conditions, other machines will out do it. There's not a machine made that can do everything the best under every situation. If there was, everyone would own one.

But piggman, and only you, if there was a better detector out there for YOU, that YOU know would provide better finds and NOT Whites, would you get it?? Hypothetical you know and not going to mention brands because too many to mention, just your thoughts??

Monatan Jim, is that that new Explorer 11? LOL J/K Whats that baby get 10-12 inches??? 8)

LOL... I found the pic on e-bay. Just adding a little levity.

It's pretty obvious which detector catches more fish... I imagine that truthfully, there are too many variables involved to prove anything except that Kirk can get pretty defensive. This post deteriorated pretty quick. The only coppers in Montana is in Butte, MT - not coins, but the largest copper mine.

I choose the Tesoro brand, BUT, that is
mainly because it's the only brand I'm using
that I haven't broken yet. Therefore the only
one I'm using now.
Treasure is not just WHERE you find it,
but also HOW you find it.

Nice finds. I guess my question is weather you're hunting the dfx as turn on and go machine? The SE as a turn on an go?

I have several adjustments I make to mine and dig coins at 8".

I do know, or have heard that the SE does go deep. Using compariable size coils on both?

Good work

Both machines go deep if the settings are right, I think Minelab maybe from the start, but tweak the DFX and it goes deep as well. Just talked to my friend tonight and I told him about the crap on a couple posts and about the DFX and he said(his words) that he was not happy with the DFX, called the number given to him, and first thing he was told was to stop using the DFX as his XLT, then was told to put one of Jimmy Sierra's program in and see what happens. He found a Merc at 7 inches, my Minelab did pick it up as well. He tweaked it after a few weeks of use and now he's pretty pumped about some of his finds, he pulled an 1874 Indian that was deeper than seven inches that sounded great. He does use a 14 inch coil on his DFX! Every brand has great points and every brand has bad points and its up to the person to decide what he likes or dislikes. I've used Whites from 1983 until earlier this year when I sold my last Whites(DFX). I know they can go deep, know that for ME, they didn't do what I felt necessary for what I wanted. I've pulled coins deep and old(1779 being oldest), pulled other great items as well, but the detector didn't decide to dig I did. I know I've found coins that Whites detectors my friend had didn't pick up, so what, he wasn't going to get it anyways and if he had a bigger coil he might have picked it up, if he had tweaked it a little better he might have. I don't understand brand friendly, I'm just hobby friendly and if you pull a Merc with a MXT I will enjoy the pic and story as much as the person who pulled it with the Explorer SE, or the Bounty Hunter, or the Shadow, or Tesero, or Garretts, or Fisher.

That is pretty cheap! You took the SE to virign sites. Come on, dude, uhhhh, let me take a cheap Radio Shack datector to my virgin sites, then compare it to my Pro XL finds. The Radio Shack is BETTER! That is funny!

Your DFX could compete just as much! Don't give me that load of cheese and crackas. >:( :D

Why do you Indian Heads in those protective things? They are bronze, not wilver. Heck, I don't even protect my wilver. If I found a Capped, I would want to feel it in my hand. :D

Kirk,
I have used a "cheap Radio Shack" detector since I started detecting in April. All of my finds I have posted here so far were with that machine including TWO colonial coppers. Just thought you should know. You don't need to spend a fortune to make good discoveries. You just need a little skill, patience and a good nose for potential sites.

Amen to that, brotha! ;)

What about the Garrett Master Hunter CX tab to vote for??? ;D ;D ;D
Great finds with both of your detectors.
All that matters is that you are finding something!

The proof is in the pictures!. I have used a dfx for the last 5 years & a Xlt before that. I just ordered an Explorer SE from upstate detectors yesterday & I can't wait to take it out for a test. By the way, Carl at upstate detectors is a wealth of knowledge, I spent over an hour & a half on the phone talking detecting & detectors & I feel alot better on the differences between both amchines, he has over 30 years of a detecting background & has used just about every machine & was a Whites dealer at one time. Anyway, he really knows his stuff.

My finds are similar to Stormtroopers with the dfx, a few silver here & there, & tons of clad but not the enticing finds that I am looking for. I am looking for quality & not quantity, & I want to finds coins, relics deeper than 7 inches. Every way I adjusted my Dfx maxed me out at about 5 maybe 6 to 7" of depth on a good day. I even had the hotshot coil on the machine. You are not going to find many indian heads & older silver at 5 inches. If every coin & relic was only 5 inches deep, I would keep my Dfx, but that ain't so.

The dfx is good if you want to go to a park & clean out the first 5 inches, but I rather dig the nice deep keepers, so I have to say the Explorer SE is the machine.

Even though I haven't received my SE yet, the posts by Explorer users seem to out do the whites when it comes down to finding older deeper coins & relics. Thats what I am after.

Carl does know his stuff ;)

I was out hunting with him today!

He pulled a pretty Barber dime and an 1840 LC today.

A White's XLT user with us dug a 1747 Colonial Farthing.

I forget what brand my detector is... but I dug big beautiful button on a section of the lawn they supposedly hammered for over an hour before I arrived ;D

I've seen everyone (assorted machines) I hunt with pull great stuff out of the ground, but nothing seems to go as deep as the Minelabs.

One example of this was when Carl pulled a LC out of an elbow deep hole on a lawn that had been "cleaned out", hunted repeatedly by an MXT, DFX and XLT.

Believe me I have no brand loyalty... I even bid on a White's Silver Eagle this morning ;D

Missed out by $10...

Maybe I'll put the money towards the SE Carl offered me today ::)

HH with the detector that works best for you,

Actually he sold his XLT and is scared to post because of what your reaction might be...

J/K

He's been without an internet connection and hunting ALOT (I can think of worse things ;) ), I don't know anything about T-shirts.
