I have several adjustments I make to mine and dig coins at 8".
I do know, or have heard that the SE does go deep. Using compariable size coils on both?
Good work

Your DFX could compete just as much! Don't give me that load of cheese and crackas.
Why do you Indian Heads in those protective things? They are bronze, not wilver. Heck, I don't even protect my wilver. If I found a Capped, I would want to feel it in my hand.

Kirk,
I have used a "cheap Radio Shack" detector since I started detecting in April. All of my finds I have posted here so far were with that machine including TWO colonial coppers. Just thought you should know. You don't need to spend a fortune to make good discoveries. You just need a little skill, patience and a good nose for potential sites.

I just ordered an Explorer SE from upstate detectors yesterday & I can't wait to take it out for a test. By the way, Carl at upstate detectors is a wealth of knowledge, I spent over an hour & a half on the phone talking detecting & detectors & I feel alot better on the differences between both amchines, he has over 30 years of a detecting background & has used just about every machine & was a Whites dealer at one time. Anyway, he really knows his stuff.
My finds are similar to Stormtroopers with the dfx, a few silver here & there, & tons of clad but not the enticing finds that I am looking for. I am looking for quality & not quantity, & I want to finds coins, relics deeper than 7 inches. Every way I adjusted my Dfx maxed me out at about 5 maybe 6 to 7" of depth on a good day. I even had the hotshot coil on the machine. You are not going to find many indian heads & older silver at 5 inches. If every coin & relic was only 5 inches deep, I would keep my Dfx, but that ain't so.
The dfx is good if you want to go to a park & clean out the first 5 inches, but I rather dig the nice deep keepers, so I have to say the Explorer SE is the machine.
Even though I haven't received my SE yet, the posts by Explorer users seem to out do the whites when it comes down to finding older deeper coins & relics. Thats what I am after.
