My best silver day...E.V.E.R... **UPDATE WITH VIDEO**

Re: My best silver day...E.V.E.R...

Without a doubt the best find I've seen posted EVER and there have been some amazing posts over the years. But this tops them all !!!!

I can't imagine what you were feeling as you pulled each one of those out?

I find myself just staring in awe at these coins. What an amazing discovery/recovery.

This really deserves a Banner of its own !!!

Couldn't be happier for you !!! It's posts like this that remind us all why we do what we do.

Congrats big time !!!

Re: My best silver day...E.V.E.R...

AC, this might explain why someone buried the cache of coins and their dates:

The Panic of 1837 was a financial crisis in the United States built on a speculative fever. The end of the Second Bank of the United States had produced a period of runaway inflation, but on May 10, 1837 in New York City, every bank began to accept payment only in specie (gold and silver coinage), forcing a dramatic, deflationary backlash. This was based on the assumption by former president, Andrew Jackson, that government was selling land for state bank notes of questionable value. The Panic was followed by a five-year depression, with the failure of banks and then-record-high unemployment levels. (Wiki)

I can't help but think about who it might have been that spilled that treasure all those years ago. Amazing dig, and congrats. I'm on cloud 9 after just reading that one.

Aquachigger

Again, congrats on you finds! Unbelievable!

That being said, let me bring up some points you might want to consider, if you haven't already done so. First of all, thank you again for making this post. I too would have showed it to others, not just sat on it, and kept it in a safety deposit box. I live in Florida, and according to the state of Florida, EVERYTHING like this belongs to the state that is found in the water, or on state controlled lands. If I were to find something like this, and the word got out to the right (I mean wrong) people from the state, they could get a search warrant, come to my house, and TAKE these coins from me. That doesn't mean that they would, but they could if they wanted to. I have no idea what state you found these in (please do not tell), but you might want to check on the laws of that particular state. THEN, leave yourself an out. Meaning, find someone who owns property in that state who will cover you by saying that these coins were found on their property. I doubt it will come to this, but it's better to be safe than sorry. We are not talking about a few coins here, we are talking about something that any museum would want to display, you know, something of historical importance. The states can be just like some people....greedy!

I'm not trying to bring you down with this post, I just want to make sure that you have all the bases covered.

Congratulations on Banner and I just want to say thanks again for sharing this find. Although some don't believe in "advertising" your finds, look at the board and look at the excitement this has generated through many of the members. I can't wait to see the video and look forward to more great finds from you in the future.

Re: My best silver day...E.V.E.R...

I can say no words that others have not spoken already. But........This is of course national news worthy. And maybe just maybe it will open the doors to new hunting grounds for all. I see it as a great way to get the word out that metal detectorists are great people and charitable at that. This is one heck of a find for sure. Just putting these into a category of sorts, researching and exploring the possible cash factor associated with this hoard is spetacular in and of itself. I mean just think of it, back then this would have been the Bill Gates find of a lifetime. Who in the heck had that kind of money, the access to it, the collection of different types of coinage etc. One can only imagine. Either way you have brought it to light. Please ride this roller coaster of finds for as long as you can. You deserve it and the metal detecting/ treasure hunting world deserves to have a bright light on it for the next few years because of it. Congratulations on the find of a century and I hope you keep hunting after this....it will be tough for a follow up!!! Regards, jgas

Re: My best silver day...E.V.E.R...

Simply amazing. I think everything has been covered, but it is an epic find. Not only is the treasure community cheering you on, but I am certain the coin community will be anxious to see an accounting of which coins you have found. They are in remarkable shape.
Cheers!
