After yesterday's great barber half find I was going to take a break today but the detecting bug woke me up early and said lets go, and sooooo glad I did. I have found many rings over the years but not any that I can really brag about, till today! Was going to head to my barber lot when on my way there I took a different route about 5 minutes away from it. Passing thru a neighborhood that dates back to the early 1900's when I seen one of the homes had recently been tore down and a empty lot was screaming at me to stop. After a very slow start and a few wheats and a mercury dime later I was thinking, not as good as I thought it was going to be, than bam! A strong 81-82 on my At pro, dug down about 4" when I seen it, still not sure what I had till I picked it up and realized I found my best ring ever. Looks from the style to be from the 1920's, Amethyst and diamonds and is 10k marked. Taking to Jewelers this week for cleaning and appraisal. I am one happy guy.

Just got home and had to look at her again, going to a jeweler tomorrow I trust who I have done buisness with in the past. Anticipation is killing me! So seriously you jewelry experts out there, what do you think of the stones and is there anyway I can check if they are real diamonds? Wish I would of bought that diamond tester now, just dont find alot of diamond jewelry. Lol

The way's I know how to check, you have to take the stones out. If you can read a newspaper print through the diamond its fake. Diamonds under high magnifications will have flaws, cracks, spots stuff like that. Sometimes the cracks are filled with epoxy like stuff. If you don't see any flaws then the diamonds are likely fake. Having a flawless diamond is very rare and very valuable. So if you see flaws then they are likely real. You can Google how to check diamonds, I'll provide you with one link Diamond Identification: How to Identify Fake Diamonds Take it to a high end jeweler they should have a diamond tester. You can find real stones in 10k gold. Sometimes people will reset grandmas diamonds in a new setting of maybe 10k gold. Its just not common to find real stones in lower karat gold and its definitely rare to find CZ's in higher Karat gold. I'm not saying its not possible. It happens its just not very common. Again its a very beautiful ring. If they are not real stones big deal its still Gold and still very beautiful and worth a few $100 bucks. If they are real, your into big money. I hope they test as real and you get a big payday. Keep us posted, I love when finds like this come along... Keeps me on my toes !!

Keep @ it and HH !!

I seriously cannot wait to hear what you find out about this piece! I am showing people the pics, they all think it is such a nice find too

RayRay..we on the east coast are turning on the net after a hard days work, and as the hours pass we are all rooting for you..hear from you soon?, Dave

Absolutely amazing find, congratulations no matter what the value ends up being....

You hunted and found it!

It may only be stamped 10K Ray but I sure would not want to pay for the time the jeweler spent to craft that beauty. The time alone in today's money if it's a custom ring would be mighty expensive! Great job! It sure is a prize find!

Sometimes, 10kt gold will be used instead of a higher grade due to the hardness of the 10kt. It holds the stones better/longer.
Good luck!

What a find man!Looks like a pretty big ring.:coins:

Appraisal findings, as they say not everyone here in Vegas hits it big. My dreams were dashed against the rocks today like many thousands who bet there luck here in Vegas, but could of been worse. The ring is modern or as stated by appraiser late 20th century, 10k, diamonds are actually high grade (5A) CZ (didn't even know there was a higher grade) Amethysts is real and brilliant 2 carat, Estimated worth of ring: $675 to $750. Still thinking of submitting it for a "paid" appraisal for insurance purposes, maybe the amount will go up. Am I upset? A little of course, but it is still my best find? YES!!! This has been quite an emotional few days but wouldnt trade the thrill of seeing it in the dirt the first time for nothing! Thank you all for your support and uplifting comments, they all meant alot to me. I had alot of fun on this post and look forward to reading more on all yours. Good luck and Happy Hunting!

Don't come down too far. That one ring is still valued high enough to pay for a detector AND like you say, the memory of it will last a LIFETIME!

Congrats!

Now that you put it that way I just paid for my At Pro, 5x8 coil and pointer!!!!! Ok, ill quit my whining thus forth. : )

Hey Bro, would you be upset if you dug a hole and there was a bunch of hundred dollar bills at the bottom? :-) I didn't think so! Now put that smile back on your face cause that's still a helluva find! All the best, Abe

What I liked about this find was how encouraging (most) everyone was to rayray on the thread and how much enthusiasm rayray has. Great job, great find, and many more.

Hey man you still hit it big. I know I was a little upset when I heard my ring might not even for 300 but I searched and searched around until I got my final offer of $900 and after all of that time, I still realized that I was getting multiple hundreds of dollars either way!! It's a beautiful find and you're a great guy, keep that head held high and don't let the money aspect get to you.
Happy hunting, Chad.
