I am a gardener. One day, I was pulling weeds in a rock bed. As I am slightly trading the rocks in my left hand to my right hand, all the while ciphering out the weeds, I noticed The Rock that has now moved through both hands was heavy and different than the rest. The minute I looked at my hand, I knew I had found an Indian artifact of some sort,…or something. I’ve done a little bit of research, but I would love to hear what your thoughts are!! Thank you in advance!!👩🏼‍🌾

That’s called a biface. It’s the result of the first stage of manufacturing a flint tool. The next step might be heat treating to make it easier to flake. Or it could be reduced thinner and made into a knife or projectile point. It can also be used for various things at any step along the way. Many times these are discarded because they have flaws. I don’t see any on your piece. Nice find!

Wow! Thank you for the information!🙂

I just saw this post. That is a nice artifact. It looks like Coastal Plains Chert that has been heated to make it flake better. Rare for your area. Most of these type artifacts in Florida are found in North Central & the West Coastal area of Florida. The Native Americans did a fair amount of trading & traveling though. Post this in the North American Indian Artifacts forum here on Treasure Net, everyone would enjoy seeing it.
