Metal Detectiing TN. cave / Anybody done this?

Ok... Got a battery and light today and I really hope this system will "flood" the area with light and not reflect humidity that is present everywhere. I'll try and take photos from every angle. This means from above, the left, the right and from a lot of different lighting angles to try and capture "something" new that the few photos that Frank, Chelsea and I have taken and shared thus far. I don't promise but we may crawl way back and try to photo the etching I remember from years ago around the "crack" area. But we will not be taking the make shift "lighting system" for the mound photos with us back that far. It's just way to hard to do. But we'll try and get another video of this area too share. I honestly don't remember what was way back in this cave concerning the other etching but I'll try and document... Brad

Limitool , just a suggestion for the equipment your taking in through the water . I use DRI-Bags in my canoe when I need my camping equipment stay dry . You can get Dri-Bags pretty resonable at Wal Mart in the camping section ......

You will need too find some worked stone artifacts from this cave. And most of them will be located at the entrance used for shelter. And a metal detector will not find them. The rest of your pics finds seem to be natural. Have you found one piece of scrap metal? And if you have switched from metal detecting to NA artifacts you should start it in that forum. We can help you in that area of expertise. Also there is a cave forum?

I would say any artifacts that were there are now buried under the landslide from the 2010 storm.

This is a true statement about the storm and landslide. I believe many could of been found. A fist sized hand held stone was picked up about a month ago right at entrance. One end was rounded to hang on too in palm and then it tapers on down to a sharp edge on both sides. It was STILL SHARP. It appears to be something that you would skin an animal with. No metal found from just inside cave to about 45 yards inward except for 2-3 small pieces of what looked like wire (2-3" long ea.). Haven't MD'd anything on the outside yet because after landslide the terrain is hard in which to do this. NO canoe... this is a wide cave for the most part but very low and just a small stream runs through it. When I started thread I had just joined that day and hadn't navigated the entire site (probably still haven't)

XLTer... Thanks for advise.

Things didn't work out for our Saturday morning cave trip but we're leaving within the hour today to "gett'er done". I hope carrying all this stuff back their again gets us some better or different photos which shows more of the mounds etchings. And hopefully maybe a short video of surrounding area up to the mound. I'll try and get some of the photos taken today posted later this afternoon after Chelsea and I recover some (it takes awhile). Please hurry Frank..... we need another mule. Later.... Brad

Check those hard to reach places, nooks and cranies. They could have hidden guns and money in there. Also when you get the time. Check the creek for arrowheads and other indian aritifacts.

Your friend,

I think you need one of these.. I have 2 of them :)

LOL!! Wall-E would be perfectly suited for the task or hell for just about anything that requires getting into tight spaces. I recently told Brad that maybe we could contact local Law Enforcement saying that we believe that there is a bomb in the cave, to see if they would bring out one of their' small rovers to explore and take pictures and video all through the cave. When they find nothing explosive, we might be stuck with a bill for their' and it's services but heay, it might be worth it! :dontknow:

Ok folks.... Today did not go as I hoped. The 12 volt lighting system did NOT work out at all after all the effort to carry everything in. My daughter, Chelsea and I worked our butts off but the results didn't pan out. She brought her son (10 years old) to go along. He had a blast. I really enjoyed this part of trip because of him coming along. He did GREAT and was no problem at all !!! The 12 volt/headlight idea was a very bad decision on my part. I may not know what to do... but I now know what not to do. And then to throw insult upon injury .... her camera's flash "refused" to work when we were RIGHT IN FRONT OF MOUND. We could not remedy at that time (tried). We tried to video and the lighting we had really hurt us. I totally failed today on this effort. I'll try and post the videos and couple pics we got and hopefully I won't fail NOW also.... I gotta get a shower, eat and regroup....

I tried to upload the video's Chelsea and I took today and I failed (too large I believe). I'll try and figure out a way later. Low on internet date till the 20th. I want to thank EVERYBODY for their support and I really want to try and show the area I'm talking about sometime... Brad.

Maybe even one of those remote controlled cars (with a camera) might be of use to get into the tighter spaces or other areas you want to explore (or the lion den!). The do have some that are "amphibious" that you could even mount your own GoPro or other camera on as well.....just a thought.

As you all may have noticed, I have not participated very much lately in the discussions about the cave and etchings and felt it best to advise everyone the reason behind this! First, I had spent way too much time in a short period reading and replying to posts as well as transfering pics of the etchings over the Photobucket, editing them (to try to enhance the etchings on the dried mud wall), copying and pasting them back to my' PC and then posting them here in this Thread which had me burnt out on what I was seeing in the etchings. And second, my' mind has been elsewhere as my' middle sister, Frances who is 70 years old, is dying from congestive heart failure and renal failure. She has had a lot of health problems ever since having the Flu last Winter and then coming down with Pneumonia this Spring. After being released from the hospital in May, she fell and fractured a disk in her' spine and was in a lot of pain. Although she was seeing a Doctor every week, they failed to find the spinal fracture and my sister's pain got worse and worse. As a result she became very inactive, staying in bed much of the time which caused excess fluid to build up in her' body and especially around her' heart. She was again taken to the hospital, where after a little over two weeks, they were finally able to get the excessive fluids out of her' body her' and her' kidneys working again but she had suffered quite a bit of heart damage. While in the hospital, the Doctors operated on her' spine to fuse the fractured spinal disk but we can't understand why since they apparently knew that she was going to die! She came home about a week ago and within 4 days, she was back in congestive heart failure and renal failure again but this time, they are worse than before with no way to reverse them. She began the death rattle this morning and after an appoinment with my' Doctor this morning, I spent most of the day with her and family members at her' home. While she is still holding on, there is nothing that can be done and will likely pass in the next day or so. I hate to ask but if you can, please pray for her that she will pass with ease and that she will soon be with our Lord, our' parents and our older sister, Shirley, who passed in 2011.

Once we have had time to grieve and things have gotten a little more back to normal, I am sure that you will find me posting many, many more times on the forums here. In the meantime, I will check back from time to time and post if I can.

Thank you in advance for your understanding, your thoughts and your prayers!

Frank

P.S. I have posted this here and in another Thread since I have participated quite often in both!

Frank,

Wow! I'm really sorry to hear that! I kind of know what your going through. My middle sister, a year younger than me was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2010. They tried everything they could but two months later she was gone.

My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family!

Clay

Thoughts and prayers to you and your family Huntsman .....:angel7:

For those of you who have been following this thread... my fellow caver Frank (Huntsmen53) sister passed early this morning. While every one of us has to deal with this at some time its a little hard hearing this. I just met Frank a few weeks ago when he arrived at my home to venture back to this cave and explore. And even then his sisters condition was weighing heavy on him. I'm sorry Frank and wish you the best... we'll hook up and adventure more in a while... Brad

....Prayers and good thoughts to you and your family Frank.....

Smile Frank.... Your now an official member of the "Mound Cave". This "before" photo was taken just before Frank, Chelsea and I were leaving for the cave. We all weren't smiling when we got back. Hence... no "post" photo. Chelsea went from the ATV to her truck and left. Frank hit the shower and then shortly later the couch (and was OUT!). I went straight to refrigerator and grabbed a Coors Light... then the shower... and yes BACK to the fridge. Sometime during the evening Frank and I passed each other going to the slow cooker after another plate of roast and veggies. Moral of story... Always get a "before" photo before going to "Mound Cave" because NOBODY cares about getting an after one. Only Frank, Chelsea & I understand.... Keep on truckin' Frank...
