I'm almost 61 now... and it's amazing to me now the number of young folks who start, quit... move on... start quit and move on again. I guess the high paying industrial jobs are now gone. But the alliance to a company that employee's you is now gone it seems.

Army CID for 22 years, and a police officer before that. Currently a security director for a major financial institution. My father was an electronics engineer and made me my first metal detector when I was 12 years old. Every beep was a treasure back then, and that hasn't changed much.

Adult film star... part time stripper with a metal detector. :P

I think the companies are moving on (overseas) more than the employees. Other companies are being taxed or regulated out of business. I think a lot of folks would choose to stay with a good company if the company itself was stable. I myself have been forced out three times as a result of company buy-outs or mergers.

Hopefully, as some of the impoverished countries which are getting a lot of our jobs will see their quality of like improve, which comes at a price. Eventually, some of these companies may return home.

I'm the 2nd generation (in the family) of IT careers.
My dad started way back in the early 60s and worked his way up to Director of operations for the Navy, which he held till his retirement.
I do enterprise IT in a fortune 100 company. Hope to retire before 60,,(2 more years).
My son got his Masters at RIT 2 years ago in "Human computer interactions",,moved to Washington state and works for himself.
Between the 3 of us we have almost a century of experience in the field..
deep sigh
