I've been a contractor for over 30 years, most Mason's I know are crippled, or drunk's, or both. Just kidding, but I mixed mud and carried block for a mason when I was a kid, and you earn every penny.

Hey, there's lots of truth to this. I've battled the bottle in the past. 8 months without a drop......and detecting keeps me, and my mind away from that garbage! Definitely the most healthy addiction I've ever had.

What an interesting thread. It’s been nice to learn about the people on here. Some I recognize. I thought maybe some more people will chime in since it’s been a while.

I started out typical with a couple fast food jobs. Then I served in the army for two years. Stay at home Mom for 7-8 years. Then I went to work for the family business and went back to school. Now I do all the accounting, payroll, most of the tax filings, and background checks on new hires. Sounds like a lot but with the software, I only work 10-20 hours a week. While at work I sometimes dabble in genealogy and try to research threads from the What Is It forum.

I am a 5 star metal detector operator, I am a 5 star metal detector authority, I am a 5 star BSer :headbang:

Prior to high school my family owned a 6 house chicken farm in which a union camp site was at and a field hospital sat on our property at the time which also was a rent house Mom and dad would rent to people. Worked those houses and he cows and at the neighbors welding shop till we moved and then I worked at a few fast food joints in school and worked part time with my family on their construction business. Then right out of school I began work for a blasting and drilling company merging two lakes in to one. Once that was complete I began working for the local city water treatment plant as a maintenance mechanic. That wasn’t for me as I couldn’t stand the smell of chlorine so I hired on at the sheriffs office then to two different police departments before I realized 6 years down the road my family needed me more so long story short I’m now a service manager at a large semi truck dealership starting from the bottom as a mechanic then to a shop foreman and where I am today as a service manager. Meet a lot of great people from all over the US.

Career cop. If you include 5 years in the NC prison systems, 30 years in law enforcement. ╦╦Ç

If you include three years in Security (armed), forty-four years in Law Enforcement for me. Everything from Dispatcher to Chief. Now retired...and loving it.

just a personal note to all reading this thread
whenever you see someone who was in law enforcement- always give them a like- you never know when it will pay off!

I was just fixing to say seems there is a lot of ex law enforcement who enjoys detecting;)

Worked summers on a commercial salmon boat in Northern California. Parents spit up and I wound up in South Carolina with mom and step dad. Packed cinder blocks for a Mobil home set up company. Joined the Air force in 83 to 91 as a Ammo Troop. All of the following is because my wife graduated college and started climbing the corporate ladder. Built houses , car mechanic , diesel mechanic, Farm supervisor for South Carolina dept. of Corrections, Safety Director for Vaughan Bassett furniture company. Sold Stihl Power tools, Service Manager for a Dodge dealer, Parts manager for a Ford dealer, Then finally found Lowe's as a commercial sales specialist , Three stores in three states. Stained glass for the last 20 years as a hobby and craft shows. Retired 5 years ago due to injuries for my AF days. 100% service connected, now I fish and metal detect when ever my neck (fused 3 verteba), back ( broke twice), hips (about 4 years from replacement), and knees ( just had the first one replaced) let me.

Neck, back, hips, knees. What a snowflake. (kidding) ╦╦Ç

I'm sorry, Looking. My last remark was very crude. I have the L3 to the S1 fused. Operations in '04 and '07. They also want to replace my right shoulder. Between those, I thought my detecting days were over. I had the nerves in my back burned off and shots are helping my shoulder. I feel so good now, I've bought three more detectors (can never have too many) and joined two more clubs! I don't have as many maladies as you have but I KNOW your pain. Hang in there! Terry
