I was looking at a set of reproductions of the Peralta Stone maps on Ebay this morning at

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1,1&item=6230803324&sspagename=STRK:MESE:IT

Has anyone seen a set of these reproductions up close and determined if they are as good as the ones that were done back in the 70's?

If you have a Mexican topo map I can show you where it is located! ;)

It's about 100 miles south of the Border?
Right?
It is in a valley that runs North/South ?
Right?
There's the Church, with a "well" in front, a/the grave yard is slightly to the southwest, the old Indian village, is slightly south & to the east of the grave yard!
The mine(s) are in a valley, North of the Church!
The ore from the mines assays, about 87% !
How does this fit 8) with your description ? ???

A) hi Bill, try 300+ . Say some 60 miles north of Alamos, Sonora. - Lat 28* 00' 26.6860N, 108* 56' 57.8662 W.6 . -- Perhaps 60 miles south of Guaymopa - Guaynopita.?

`~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

It is in a valley that runs North/South ?
Right?

A) yes, exactly as shown in the map in Dobies "Apache Gold & Yaqui Silver". The entrance is both from the north and south.?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There's the Church, with a "well" in front,
A) Not in front, but down lower and to one side of the orchard. To the north.?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

a/the grave yard is slightly to the southwest,

A) The workers are 2000 meters to the SE., The priests lie to the NW along a beautiful little stream valley. Perhaps 400 meters SW from the actual headquarters.?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
the old? Indian village, is slightly south & to the east of the grave yard!
A) correct. SE from the workers graveyard.?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The mine(s) are in a valley, North of the Church!

A) They actually suround it, mostly in the NW (Tayopa) NE. The Remedios lies approx 2000 meters ENE from the Capila. If you want actual compass directions and distances, I will give them to you.?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The ore from the mines assays, about 87% !
A) since I haven't actually opened any of them yet, I cannot honestly answer that, but hi grade samples indicate very very nice ore. Au., Ag., & Pt. This in both vein and in placer .
H ow does this fit? ?8)? with your description ?? ???
I realize this thread is probably long-dead, but it is a prime example of how badly the reports of lost mines and buried treasures become "conflated" - that is confusing the details about ONE location with the details of another. The original post stated the story was lost gold in the Superstition mountains, in CALIFORNIA; the readers innocently mistook this for the Superstition mountains of ARIZONA, which has quite a few legends of repute, including a famous lost gold mine. Superstition mountain California also has a slightly similar legend, so it is but a small step to mistakenly transpose the information from one legend to another. Superstition Mountain Coordinates: 32.936914° -115.805596° topographic map:
I would love to hear the original legend of this California Superstition Mountain.
If you're interested in the Peraltas and the Superstitions in Arizona, by all means get the book "The Shadow of the Sentinel" by Warren Getler and Bob Brewer. It will be an eye opener for you.
Regars,
Donna
I thought that the Book was a waste of time and money........................................
OroBlanco:
Yes!
You are absolutely CORRECT! ::)
That FACT! Has already been brought to the attention of these LDM Hunters, ;D
(see reply # 39 )
Heck!
I know of one treasure story in a national magazine that
says : "You go west from there to ....."
SURE! You DO! :-\
Try "East!" !
Not! West!
One simple word wrong and you'll never came anywhere close
Right ! :P
All TOO correct mi amigo CptBill, sad to say. This is what is wrong with MOST of the treasure tales/lost mines in my opinion, that some important detail has gotten "fudged" either deliberately or mistakenly, and as Bullwinkle would say, "Presto" instant LOST treasure or LOST mine because that important detail, just ONE WORD can make it impossible to find it again. I saw where you tried to point out the mistake that our friends had made (innocently I think) before it got too far gone.
your friend,
Hey all,
I would have to agree with Oro on this one...Sometimes one single word or the meaning of a word can change EVERYTHING.... I would love to hear anything that macspoetgirl is willing to release. I live fairly close to the Superstition Mt. ( not Mt's ) in Southern Cal. I have heard anything from Aztec gold to lost rifle's to be in that area. It is also HIGHLY patrolled by the military. Well it's up to you now Macspoetgirl... If you want us to know more we are listening... Then again if you want to send a PM message to your choice that is also your prerogative...
Thanks
There is a heart with a cross on it carved on a rock. It is not in the superstitions. The map stone tablets point it out but it is not those mountains. There is a mine that the spanish mined and the apaches. I believe the aztecs mined it first. The church in mexico mined it illegally against the crown of spain. That is all I can say I guess. I think the stone maps are an interchangable map for multiple staging sites where they moved supposedly 50 tons of gold. I must say i am more interested in history than gold as gold like that can only bring trouble.
Did anyone stop to think that maybe the original "Superstition mine" is in the California Superstition mountain and that the Arizona Superstitions were just used to throw people off. Just a thought...
NOPE!
"Cause The Dutchman worked at THe Vulture Mine in Wickenburg, Az
Where he Was Fired for "Hi Grading" !
Moved to Phoenix
Where he made trips into The Superstition Mnts
Where his partner was killed, according to records, by Apaches !
AND!
Where he later died and was buried! ::)
Hey All,
Yes, there are Superstition Mtns in California, but i don't have immediate info on them as my treasure books are packed in storage.
Here's my take on the Superstition Mtns in AZ.
Visited the place about 4 times in early 1980's, admittedly twice looking for the so-called Lost Dutchman Mine. We didn't have any treasure hunting experience nor did we do any research. We just knew the basic Dutchman story and thought we'd have fun exploring and camping.
One time, 4 of us went fully armed with 30.06 (each clip loaded with armour-piercing rounds, tracers, and regular shot), a .357 magnum, .44 magnum with hollow points, 12 gauge w/ choke, AR-15, and .22 long rifle with 30-round clips and a hand crank on the trigger which turned it into a sort of automatic 'Gatling' gun. We all felt like someone or something was watching us. The dog we had went berserk more than once. Admittedly, despite our firepower, it was still creepy.
Lots of bizarre people roaming there. One land owner in the region shoots first, asks questions later. There was an old timer named Jack who promoted himself as a tour guide. He would lead hapless people out in the middle of nowhere, then abandon them. Many people have disappeared in those mountains and have never been found.
One of the persons in our group said that his uncle had been a prospector a few years before, and roamed the mtns looking for the mine. During one trip, the uncle felt like he was being watched for quite awhile. He walked up a dry creek bed, and found a new arrowhead sitting on top of a rock pointing in the opposite direction that he was walking. About 50 paces later, he found a second arrowhead, neatly placed on top of a rock in the same manner. And again, about the same distance later, he found a third arrowhead placed on a rock the same way. He started to get even more nervous. Walking around a bend, he said he encountered a huge Apache who looked wild, someone straight out of Central Casting; he might have been over 6'8". The Apache pointed at him and said, "White man, go back!" Other Apaches emerged from the nearby bushes. The uncle immediately cleared out of the area and never went back. Apparently, there are still Apache Indians in the mountains who have never assimilated into modern American culture. And they don't like white people in what is considered sacred territory.
If anyone wishes to search this region, I would recommend not to--certainly not alone. However, if you must prospect this wild, rugged and extremey harsh wilderness, do NOT go at any time in the summer. Temperatures can easily exceed 115 degrees. Go during mild season and take plenty of water, food, a compass, a map, and be heavily armed. Do NOT venture there without guns and plenty of ammo. Also, be sure to map out your route prior and inform someone of where you plan to search.
Brewer's book Shadow of the Sentinel makes for entertaining reading. How much of it is fiction versus truth is debatable, but he makes a good point that Waltz, the alleged 'Dutchman' (actually a Jew from either Netherlands or Germany) was a Freemason and, at one time, living in California in areas linked to Freemasons from the south, aka Knights of the Golden Circle. It is possible and somewhat probable that Waltz did not actually have a mine, but was a sentinel guardian of a KGC cache. That he only brought a little gold with him each time he visited town could lend some credence to this postulation since he would have to pay for living expenses and could dip into the cache as needed, as long as he didn't take the entire cache and try to disappear with it.
Despite much disinformation and misinformation surrounding KGC and Freemasons, it is plausible that they were stashing treasure in anticipation of a second civil war. Waltz may have very well been a part of that.
Anyway, there are less dangerous places to treasure hunt, so make your choices carefully and good luck!
Don't go into those Mnts in the summer time !
