Just curious?

I see. So in reality everyone in NY, chicago and D.C. basically ignored the gun bans and kept all their guns! Which means all the stuff TH and the gun club throw around about how banning guns has no effect and just disarms decent law abiding citizens the right to defend themselves, That's why the crime and murder rate is so high!....is all false and total rubbish because those folks STILL HAVE their guns!

Ok, i got it now thanks.

Don't hold your breath. You have to wait in line behind the anti-gunner thread to get locked first.

You are laboring under a false impression. No one asked or made anyone turn in their guns. We are all allowed to have as many as we wish. However, it requires a permit to carry a loaded one in public. The fear some have is anticipating a law that bans gun ownership.

So wait a minute....You're telling me that a "gun ban" doesn't actually mean it bans guns? From what TH and the gang scream often NY, chicago and D.C. all have massive murder/crime rates due to "the ban on guns mean citizens can't defend themselves!"
When is a "gun ban" not a "gun ban"?...When it's in America?

well, I've lived in the US all my life, and I know of no city or state that has banned gun ownership

when it is ajar.

As far as i know New York, Chicago and D.C. are fairly big places, which i assume contain lots of law abiding citizens?

So...why did THEY all give up their guns without this much talked about rebellion, unlike the rest of you "cold dead fingers" folks?

(Let's try keep this to sensible and practical comments please!)
Rentrer.

Your kidding, you never heard of Chicago or Washington DC?

Chicago and DC both had total hand gun bans, chicago was for 20 years before supreme court declared it unconstitutional, even now the requirements to get a hand gun are so strict it may as well still be illegal...........

In DC there was a total ban of anyone except law enforcement carying a gun in DC from 1976 to 2007 a total of 31 years, if you owned one prior to the law going into effect you had to keep it disassembled or a trigger lock on it at all times and it was against the law to put it together or remove the trigger lock with in the city limits even if you were being broken into and you were home....

Since the law was struck down by Supreme Court murders went from 186 in 2008 to 88 in 2012...the lowest rate since 1976 when the gun ban went into effect..........
In case any one missed it, since they removed the gun ban in DC the murder rate dopped 47.3%

first handguns are not the only guns, so even then it wasn't a 'gun' ban
second I made a distinction between owning a gun and carrying one.
third even strict regulations about handguns is not the same as a ban on owning

is there anyplace in the U.S. where a citizen cannot own a gun?

In DC it was any gun period. You could not buy one after 1976 and any gun that was owned prior to 1976 had to be locked up permanently, if someone broke into your home and was physically attacking you, you were not alllowed to put the gun together and defend yourself..... How much more do you want???

ok, sorry, your first statement said hand guns.

He is surrounded by gorgeous swedes in bikinis....maybe not so miserable. What are we doing wrong?

No, but there have been, and probably are cities that will charge you with a crime for using a gun to defend yourself, even if you are in the right. So, in some respects that isn't much different than having your guns taken away. Simply having one does you no good, if you're afraid to use it. That was what Wash. DC was doing until slapped-down by the Supreme Court. Also look at New York's Sullivan Law.....couldn't have a handgun in possession inside the city limits, and if you got caught...automatic 1 year sentence...no other sentence possible. That sentence imposed even if you saved your own, or some other's life.

LOL!!!!

From my understanding most places that have strict gun laws have'nt banned guns they just make you pay out the a**, permits and taxes are ridiculious if you can even get a permit. I remember reading something about New York and how to own a gun you had to pay outrages prices to get the permit to keep it and the fees were renewed each year like car tags. I can't remember but it was in the hundreds to keep and register a hand gun and that money had to be payed each year.

Thank god I live in the middle of the countrywhere gun ownership is a must. In Iowa we have had always had a conceal and carry permit but they had strict standards for instance you could get one if you were involved with security, a trucker or had to handle large amounts of money and or had to transport it. I believe it was two years ago that Iowa decided to lift the strict requirements on permits and now every male 21 and over seems to have a permit. 50 bucks and a class (depending on the sheriff it could be 10 minutes to 4 hours) and a back ground check and prestoyou could carry a gun. I love it. Since I have been 21 I have had a permit. When I lived in Minnesota I aquired my first permit while working at an outdoor store and the instructer suggested getting the Utah permitt as well to be able to carry in like 12 more states than the MN permit allowed. That permit is the simplist to get. You fill out a form and your certificate saying you went through the permit class in whatever state and send a picture of your self, 50 bucks and there you go.
