Re: I'm going to build an LRL (seriously)

I will try.
A center-tapped magnetically coupled antenna for directivity. (quiet too from QRN)

Diode clipping protection for the RF amp 102’s (USA). Selectable parallel caps for frequency – tank circuit.

First half of LM 324, ugh been a long time but a signal amp of some kind??

Second half of LM 324, ugh, it is capacitive coupled from first so an AC amp?

When it is directly pointed at a source you have a compass bearing and the signal is max and the 102's don't fight.

A radio amp/direction finder for MW, Top band and butt-head QRM. USA mode is operated as a vertically polarized antenna.

I was too lazy to figure out the resonance based on the induction and capacitance but those sure look like clipper diodes to me. I can’t remember but magnetically coupled antennas are good for maybe 5 MHZ, unless there is one heck of a strong signal nearby. Is 950 some favorite AM DX broadcast in Detroit or Minnesota NY?

How’d I do?
I love AM because I love the distortion.
I was an op at W1AW Portable 7; 1997 IARU. I helped Rush build the farm.

Re: I'm going to build an LRL (seriously)

Good post JG. Right on target.

Re: I'm going to build an LRL (seriously)

Hey JG…I am not very informed when it comes to electronics..I had to open one of the boxes because the female plug in had come loose …When I tried to tighent the nut it turned a little. So I took the top off because I did not want the wires to be twisted inside…I could see what looked like 5 little adjustment screws sticking out of the epoxy. Do you know if any of the stuff in that diagram has any adjustment screws..?...Art

Re: I'm going to build an LRL (seriously)

Fenix, JG understood the basic topology but missed the frequency by a few orders of magnitude.

Did anyone spot the engineering mistake in the preamp? (Yes, Fenix, it's an outright mistake, not a judgment call.) Wouldn't stop it from working, so if a person built and tested it, without careful testing they probably wouldn't know they'd screwed up.

The high end rolloff needed for bandpass filtering in the bandpass amps is provided by Miller integration in the LM324's, that's why you don't see feedback caps.

Trick question: why is the middle frequency 19.2 kHz and not some other frequency? (Carl's gonna die laughing when the light bulb goes on!)

Re: I'm going to build an LRL (seriously)

Some people are colder than a skeptic on ice when it comes to locating. Others can use just about anything including the goldbug2. I first realized I could locate with my old 6000Di Series 2. Still works if I beat it hard enough. I'd be detecting and all of a sudden I'd get this feeling that I was near a ring. Usually within six feet I'd find it.

Re: I'm going to build an LRL (seriously)

It's been so long ago, I think now I did already have some dowsing experience by that time. I got a black box think it was 1981.

Re: I'm going to build an LRL (seriously)

No, you are so far off I ain't wasting any time on people with the pimp attitude. When I built my first MFD my finds went up ten times.

Re: I'm going to build an LRL (seriously)

What I do not understand is that you have no idea about how these devices work…How are you going to address some of the problems with different LRL’s and MFD’s if you have no understanding of them..Are you going to make one that will only locate Micro-Gold, Rings, Rays or long time buried Auras…
How are you going to design a system that will over come the skeptical believe system as I see that as a major part of any design that you will have ?..Art

That's a combination of #4, plus the fifth one that I mentioned having left off the list because it was too corny.

Sorry.

When something doesn't work the first time, why do you keep repeating it?

By the way, insults only expose that you have no real data to offer. Lame.

One thing that is important in designing something, is to first determine how not to design it.

Thank You very much…Have fun building a LRL that does not stand a chance of working..Art

Re: I'm going to build an LRL (seriously)

Don't worry. If it flunks the Big Four list, I won't build it.
Apparently you misunderstood what I meant.

Thank You EE THr….So you are now saying that you are not going to build a LRL…that would be a wise decision..After all your Straw Man Fallacy would just hinder any work that you claim to do…Art

Now you stoop to mimicking, but with no reference, that's so lame. Poor soul.

What I said was that there's no use to build a device that doesn't work.

But I'm still open to build one that does. Any suggestions of one (that passes the Big Four list)?

I'm waiting...waiting...waiting...

Well?

You had better start you design from scratch..You have eliminated all the options of using the present day technology in your device..Your Big Four list is just a joke…Art

You mean un-technology. :laughing7:

If the Big Four is a joke, then why aren't you laughing? :dontknow:

And once again, no data, only juvenile insults. That's all you got anymore!

Carl, now that you're back, I have a funny question:

"Why is the middle frequency of the Gold Gun AU718 (schematic posted above) 19.2 kHz and not some other frequency?"

Merely reporting that you had a good laugh will suffice to answer the question.

Why ask Carl ? He owns over 30 LRL’s and none of them work properly.
Why not ask the manufacturer. After all it is his invention and he knows what it was designed to do..Art
