I THINK I JUST DUG A GW BUTTON IN CANADA!

Thanks Jeff

It's sinking in today that this might be the only time I'll ever see one come out of the dirt. Went back today for a short try before dark, ended up with the headlamp on trying for targets but all the brass was just old sheet or do-dads.

I really hate that flashing stuff that seems to "infect" some sites.

Maybe it's only worth 73% of an American dug GW. :happysmiley:

Yep !

As for the 165 likes,(at the time) 81 came from the same two people, probably not helping the cause, sure it's nice to support your friends, but kind of dilutes the value of a "like".

I think you are right though it will get there, no rush.

In any case very good hunt, and a better site, without a good site to hunt we are stranded, and MDs become poor doorstops.

Awesome GW button!! Congrats on a beautiful piece of history

Thanks for the kind words Richardson. I'll have to go the extra bit to make nice display for safe keeping.

I put the rest of the hunt up on the first posting page. Thanks everyone for the interest in the GW Button, it makes it all worthwhile sharing.

"Sharing" yes that is what it is about. (last count 100K + members) Although that said I want to find something so good I don't dare tell publicly.

Out of the 100k it's still amazing how many one of's are dug and posted. Great hobby this one is, totally different every time we dig for a day.

I didn't realize it was total likes on the thread, well didn't think about it. But it doesn't need that anyway.

No doubt powder flask. in itself a good find.

Agreed, I was thinking, "That button is once in a lifetime . . . less for most of us . . . and I'd be thrilled with the powder flask! Could've been owned by the guy who wore that killer button!"

Looks like there was either a traitor among your Canadian ranks long ago, or some US soldier from the War of 1812 lost it?
Mysterious! Makes the find 10X more special!

I'm still waiting for this to be on the BANNER, makes me think about our conversation on the phone the other day as to what makes it up and what doesn't. :icon_scratch:

See you tomorrow morning Jim,
Dave

PS. Likes or no likes NS Rick, this piece should still be up top! :censored:

I wonder what this type of thin brass sheet was from, cans, containers? All I know it's a pain getting it all out of the hole once it crumbles. I know if I don't get it all out it's only a matter of time that I'm digging up the same plug again looking at smaller pieces.

No doubt powder flask. in itself a good find.

Thanks Rick, I really had a brain fart trying to place what it was.

THINK you did? KNOW you did! Nice.

Thanks Smokey

It's one of those finds that has one doubting what the eyes are seeing, as there's been many times I have dug something in the field thinking it was something then later thinking "What was I thinking" Lol

The powder flask side is gaining warmth for me as I realize it's a pretty nice recovery. You very well might be right thinking that the same person could of owned both of the items. Just wonder if the two date the same?

It could of been the other ways around, or it could of been an item that was passed down through the family. Either way it's a save and a cherished one at that.

It is what it is Dave and what happens happens, no worry from me. I have the warmth of knowing that I dug something that may very well be a first dug on this side of the border, to think of how many holes folks have dug in the past 50 yrs and this is one is most will never see laying in the dirt on either side of the border.
Hey in 24 I'll be on the road heading to the site, expectations high as usual because it seems to be the way for me to dream and to have that feeling of something pretty cool is going to be dug. I'll even bring along the GW Button and the powder flask to show you them, I'll even let you touch the flask. :laughing7:

Seeing as this hasn't made it to the top yet, BANNER. Awesome find, especially considering the geography!

The idea of "touching your flask", is just a tad disturbing to me Jim! :icon_scratch:
Now, if you wanted me to touch your GW Button, that's a totally different story! :laughing9:

Looking forward to tomorrows hunt buddy, see you there at 8am.
I'll call you later this morning regarding the 900lb. plate I have on board for you.
Dave

Awesome button pepperj  What a great piece of history, and it looks like it will display really well. I bet there is a good story behind how it got so far north.

Sorry I was late, vote is in. Congrats

When you put it that way it's a VERY disturbing thought.:laughing7: though you'd like to fondle the GW Button, remember you can pick your friends but not the relatives.

Thanks Buddy!

That reminds me to take the trailer-take the trailer-take the trailer. I better hook it up today so it's behind me when I leave in the morning as my mind will be digging dirt, not tamping. :)
