I THINK I JUST DUG A GW BUTTON IN CANADA!

The only reason I can think of is that there is one on there now...stupid because it belongs on top...the same thing happened to me back in 2010 .I found a war of 1812 plate...but one was dug the day before and that went on top...mine never up..it was ok because I knew it would have made it if I found it 2 days earlier...lol

Ahh timing!

What is it they say, second place is the first loser, or something like that

A first rate find second to none is what I should have said!

Not trying to hijack the thread...but this is the the thread I was referring too.

Fully understand what you're referring to so no worries Brian. That's was an awesome recovery and too bad it wasn't up there also.

Thanks for the link as many will be sure to use it more often as they'll know it now excites. It's a real cool thing to explore the banners and what made the banner and the replies to the banners, going right back to the start of the banners. :)
Now I know why I picked up my ugly brick to use in a future display cabinet, got the idea from yours! See this site does wear off on others. I picked it up just a few feet from the GW Button.

Google found me that link about a year ago by googling "treasurenet banner" I haven't seen it linked on the forum anywhere though. It would be awesome if it was on here in the "Our Discoveries" section under "Todays Finds"... call it "Banner Finds"! That page is the best one on here and you're right, it is funny to see the evolution of what's been considered a banner on here from way back in 2005. In the dead of winter I'll page through those and read all the stories... gets me pumped to do some more research and wait for the ground to thaw.

Sweet brick! ha They do look cool stacked like a brick wall in a cabinet with relics leaning against it. I boil mine in water for 10 min or so, scrub them with a brush after, then stick them on my grill on high for 20 min or so to totally dry them out.

Brian, That plate is INCREDIBLE man. I've seen a few scrolling through old banners, but that one is the nicest I've seen. It should be in the banner list so I could have found that post and read the story. Some of the best finds on here are lost in the todays finds pages. Its a shame.

Going to be completely honest, I know some will freak out over this, GW buttons are COMMON. They have become so common and their value has watered down so dramatically because of us detectorists. I have seen AT LEAST 150 people dig them. But yours is SPECIAL, because it was found in CANADA. How freakin' UNLIKELY and RARE is that!!! The backstory for this button is what makes it more special. GW buttons are found every week but this one is the best I have seen found in terms of it's history and adventures --- just imagine the story behind it. BANNAH!!!!!!!!!!

I'm glad you said that
I'm going to quote you on that, not right now but when the time is right

Well you're sort of right young jedi. :) I don't think I'd call them common, but it's true we're seeing more and more get dug. Where you're making the mistake is making that a general statement because what we see tend to be the same types of GW buttons over and over, but we NEVER see the rarest of the rare, or even the really rare.

Thanks for the tip on the cleaning up the brick
I'll see what the brick looks like washed. though it was sitting on top of the pasture so I'm thinking it's a little sun baked. I'm thinking it might of been made at the brick works that was on my property as the early styles I've seen look similar pretty crude.

It looks like the amount of GW's dug is gaining over the past few years but still it's on the want list of so many diggers and collectors, and your bang right about this one being more special for it having traveled the distance it has.

I'm glad you said that

Interesting statement IH, the quote gun is cocked.:)

The common are being posted but the rare one are scarce still, and getting one on this side is well just down right rare. I'm just sitting here still wondering if it's a one of, or could there be a coat full of them at the site hiding, oh how they dreams keep us going.

Thats the only reason I voted, & I agree a lot have been turning up. The investors years ago will be gutted.

Big congrats!!

Thank You goldbmine

You've seen this wheel before and nothing new I'm sure. In today's shrinking world everything it seems has taken a big hit as the rare has become the well known.

Yes i agree they have been turning up a lot but that variety all the other are still pretty damn rare i would say..CT takes the crown for people finding them..
Mine is a more rare but the next common variety and also has some damage..

Isaac,

You're wise beyond your years.....and yes the main reason I'm supporting it is because of it being found out of it's normal context.....a bit like finding a slave tag in Eastern Canada.....I don't believe it has ever happened or will happen.

That's another great example of something totally out of place, even though we had the underground railway running into Ontario.

At this rate I'll be on the banner right to when I start digging in the Spring again. :)

If that happens we'll all wish for the spring showers as you'z going to be ripe.:)

Wow, thanks guys! Appreciate the comments... come on moderators... Put it up with a Canadian flag in the picture so people will know it's more special than your "average joe" GW! ;) Love this forum!

Pleeeeeeease! Mods, put it up on banner, it's my one and only Christmas wish!
Location makes it rare.
