Re: I found what? in Texas? (kinda solved)

if it was part of a coin collecters "collection" that was "stashed" away in the home * and the house later got was totalled --- there may very well be other"interesting" coins still waiting to be found , simce most coin collecter type folks do not have just one coin in their collection normally --with a bit of luck they might have squirreled away some silver coins and even gold ones --I'd say its well worth your time ro check that spot out very well. :icon_thumright: :wink:

Very plausible that someone left it behind. Also very plausible that it was part of a bigger collection someone left behind. Looks like you've got a real honey hole to check out very carefully. Looking forward to seeing the next one(s) you dig up! :headbang:

Deja vu... well it seems I am not alone... so this has all been done before....

so... Ecclesiastes 1:9

What has been will be again,
what has been done will be done again;
there is nothing new under the sun.

still rings true... LOL

thanks for the link bigcypresshunter

I would feel the same way if I found something like that ;D My brother found one a few months ago here in NY. We had a friendly competition going on who could find the oldest coin... I've conceded :laughing7:

Wow I can't believe how often this has happened in recent times... Its more common than I thought it was... well at least that gives my story validity... just because others have found ancient coins in America too... :icon_thumright:

Re: I found what? in Texas? (kinda solved)

Roman coins are cool to find here in the states but not at all uncommon to find at coin shows. I agree this was very likely lost from someone's collection. Just to show how cheap they can be here is a small group of "uncleaned" Roman coins I recently bought on Ebay for 2 bucks each. Some I have started to clean & others are as they came out of the ground.

I think my Dad's nailed the ID! :hello2:

I believe I have cracked this one. If you look closely I believe you can see CA[E]SAR AVG F DOM[ITIANVS COS IIII]. The Reverse is SPES standing left lifting her skirt and holding a Flower (which one cannot see). At its weight and size it is an AS. Assuming my I.D. is right this would be a RIC 926 dated 76 AD

Your right most Roman Coins have very little value, if you got $5 for it you would be doing well :thumbsup:
