Hope Springs Eternal

been trying to get to writing a summary about the
Tom Beals' cave of gold by Hiram Jefferson Herbert Jr published in 1958
Hiram gave some of the men names & a couple of men
chased a wounded buffalo up a ravine & finds gold &
the location of vault cipher #s are the same as all seen
today.
the story is still under copyright for the mag, maybe i can
post little bits in more posts, as i think that might cover the
i think its called a 3/10s law or something like that

my post about finding the story
http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/beale-codes/623684-hope-springs-eternal-2.html#post6404694

I thought copyrights ran out after around 60 years. It is now been 62 years? I do not know how long copyrights are good for? I do know some people re-copyright books under their name. Peter Viemeister re-copyrighted Pollock's book about Lynchburg.

My bad. You are correct. Anything published after 1923 is still under copyright. If unpublished it is copyrighted for 70 years.

I'm still working on how HJH, knew @ age 14 of the TJB papers

HJH added and changed a few things
to the story & only included the
location cipher it is the same, as
seen with the Harts & what is said
to be an original pamphlet
Hiram warns people to work on it in
spare time

A. TJB was from Richmond,Va. TJB & Co.
hung out @ gents club. some of the Co.
were wealthier than others in Crew

B.Morriss still breaks code with DOI
and explains the method used with DOI
remembers TJB got mail from Richmond
goes finds out, TJB had a woman,& the
older club members tell that TJB left
and never came back, woman says oh my
i waited in vain. Morriss goes home.

C. knows he is not well, gives the box
& contents to a friend, never named.he
works on it 22 yrs,he makes it public
to try and flush out the lost letter

I have two of those magazines. I have not even read them yet. But when I do I will let you know what I find or what I think about the story. The author could have added a little dressing to the story to make it sound better? We will see?

Does seem to be an embellishment of the Hart version.

We'll see...

...
A. TJB was from Richmond,Va. TJB & Co.hung out @ gents club...
TJB had a woman,& the older club members tell that TJB left and never came back, woman says oh myi waited in vain...
"He was the model of manly beauty favored by the ladies..." -THE BEALE PAPERS
"Gent's club" in 1820 Richmond?
Was that similar to the Buzzard Roost "Gent's clubs" on Lynchburg's Commerce Street around the corner from Morriss's?
That does have the feel of a fill in the blanks embellishment added to the original Beale story published by Ward, similar to the"Planters Hotel" and "Jefferson" of the Hart Papers that other have expanded upon.

YOU read it...?

ECS agreed filling in the blanks & embellishment is what HJH has done.
im wondering did he have the pamphlet and/or had he read what GH wrote in 1952

"He was the model of manly beauty favored by the ladies..." -THE BEALE PAPERS
"Gent's club" in 1820 Richmond?
yes RM went there near the end of his life

I never did read the story because it said John Beale's Cave. It did not say Thomas Beale's Cave. Well the cover says, "John Beale's Cave of Gold." But in the index it says "Tom Beale's Cave of Gold?"

Thomas John Beale... TJB...?

I don't think so. Most likely a printing error? Nothing new in the story. It is the best I have ever read as for adjectives and flurry but the story is the same about the TJB Letters the Code Paper Number One of the locality of the vault. Descriptions of how they got together in Richmond at a gentleman's club. Two of his friends named Scott Fleming Lee and Ben Randolph and a girlfriend named Mary Patricia Mayberry living on Monument Avenue in Richmond. It says Robert Morriss went and talked to her after he opened the ironbox. But I believe he got the whole story from the George Hart Papers in Roanoke Library after 1952 when George deposited them there. Other than that there is nothing new.

Anyone else know of the Beale Cyphers Study Commitee of the NSA, with declassified documents on BEALE...? There was one document in 1972, that was INTERESTING! :icon_thumleft: :coffee2:
