HOMOEOPATHIC T ???????

I have a 4 inch tall BOERICKE and TAFEL Homoeopathic screwtop medicine with original contents and label but I cant read the word after HOMOEOPATHIC because its ripped off.

The second word starts with a T. Its 41% alcohol. Directions that say to mix 25 drops with a tumblerful of water seem to imply that its to be taken orally (for acute affections). Federal Law prohibits dispensing without a prescription.

Any ideas the second word? Any idea of date or value?

Hey Bigcypress,

I'm voting for "Tincture," as the 2nd word. Are there any numbers or symbols on the base of the bottle?

I believe it would be post 1951, as that was the date of the Durham-Humphrey Amendment to the Pure Food and Drug act of 1906, which specified that "Caution: Federal law prohibits dispensing..." language.

How'd you come upon this little Homeopathic guy?

I found it in the dump. Basically the same place I find all my old stuff.

The bottom appears to be an I on a circle with a 2, 12, 1, and 7.

Hey, old whiskeys are really hot right now but I dont know where to sell mine as eBay no longer permits whiskey sales and USPS wont ship them.

Here are a few of my old bourbons I am grouping together for sale. . The tincture looks cool amoungst them lol. That Boericke and Tafel Cannabas Tincture would be worth bucks. I saw that in my search but I can find an example like mine..

Looking for examples of your "drug" online I found some more history of BOERICKE and TAFEL from reading on this site your bottle is at least before 1961, that is when they no longer had the New York, and Chicago stores and they were no longer mentioned in any of their ads, so I assume on the labels as well.

Shouldn't it read "acute infections" and not 'affections'?

Damn just when I thought it was solved. It could be THALLIUM

Thallium is very toxic and thallium sulfate was used for rat poison and ant killer for many years, it has been banned in USA since 1972 so I don't think this would be a candidate for a drug that is consumed, I feel safe that you can rule out thallium, thallium salts has been used as a treatment for ringworm and other skin infections, but I can't find any internal uses for this metal.

It would be cool to see another bottle. I cant have the only one left from 1954- 1961.

In 1954, they changed their manufacturer's mark and eliminated the elongated diamond entirely, leaving just the oval and 'I'.

Hey Bigcyptress,

I use David Whitten's site, all the time. He did us all a favor with it. One thing I've learned about old bottles, there always seems to be exceptions to these rules.

Here's a stippled base soda: 7<(I) 59, on his site.

Sorry, I was reading the plant code as 2, rather than 12. I'm behind on getting new glasses...

I should have copy and pasted the rest it says.
The diamond was removed from the “old” mark (diamond superimposed over an “I” and an “O” or oval) beginning around 1954, although some bottle molds apparently didn’t have the diamond eliminated (i.e., the mold re-engraved) until as late as 1958. (However, I have a soda bottle in my collection with the “old” mark, dated 1959!) After 1958 the great majority of O-I bottles carried the “new” simplified mark of just an I inside an O.
