Re: found this button and don't have a clue

thanks for expressing an interest in my screen name. I was wondering how long it would take someone to ask. And yes I am a tornado surviver.I feel very blessed that God decided to give me some more time to love and enjoy life, family, old friends and find all the new friends, I've yet to find. Of which I hope some of you become. :icon_sunny: Thanks

And thanks again NGE for being a big part of solving my button question

And did any of you notice that after all of you were so great and nice in helping me, I decided to become a charter member and hopefully a part of this wonderful group of people.

You're more then welcome. A lot of us on here love to do research and try to beat each other to the answer. It's all in good fun and for me it's a learning expierence. I have learned quite a bit about several different topics trying to figure out what something is. I'm glad you are gonna stick around and join the party.

hey guys; do any of you know where I can learn more about this button, like it's history or anything???????Tornadolady
Here is a link on the War of 1812 in South Carolina. http://sciway3.net/proctor/state/sc_1812.html#sc

The British raided some cotton plantations off the coast and burned most of the plantation homes near navigable waters.

Re: found this button and don't have a clue

I am just sure its an eagle, not a pelican. If you look closely at the head you can see the hooked beak and eye as it is looking back over its shoulder.

Maybe. :-\ We need study the wings as well. Here is what a civil war era pelican would look like from NGE's link to compare with. Tornadolady, this one may not be over yet. :D

The second pic is an 1812 button also from NGEs link.

ADDED: the bottom button is tornadoladys.

I read a story once that Louisiana was running out of endangered pelicans and Florida needed wild turkeys, so they traded straight up. ...or was it the other way around? :icon_scratch: Anyway, it was an interesting true story. ;D

Re: found this button and don't have a clue

Hi guys, as you guys discuss eagle vs pelican make sure you are looking at my picture not some of the others that some of you compared it to . I the one you are looking at now isn't mine. I don't know how to do it, or I would. But go back to the beginning of my post and look at those pics. They are the ones that are mine. I love the sense of humor all of you have. lol

hope all are doing well today.

Re: found this button and don't have a clue

Would you guys please tell me where I can get info. on cleaning different metals. Not this one , I'm not talking about this button but other kinds of metals that I may find in the future. I certainly don't want to mess anything else up like I did the indian head penny I found. Which did need cleaning. I would prefer my next mistake be on something else totally different, not on my finds.

Your help would be much appreciated......tornadolady .....(Wanda).....
