I to thought it was a meteorite projectile, but someone who only looked at a pic of it , claims hes 100% sure its not ? how can you be 100% sure about something by looking at a pic?
Because DIAZ, unlike yourself, he is an expert. He has been dealing in meteorites for over 15 years and travelling around the country retreiving them. He sells on eBay. He commented on the Bantam Lake sighting. Why dont you see if he will offer you $2o just for fun?

I see you have a vote for outer space. That pretty much overrules Mr. Meteorite. About Me - Mr Meteorite 2013

My name is Ruben Garcia , I have been known as Mr-Meteorite (on and off of eBay) since 1998. I’ve been dealing in meteorites for nearly 15 years and I’ve traveled all over this country retrieving them. As a meteorite expert, I’ve appeared on many radio programs (including BBC and NPR) and TV programs such as NOVA Science NOW (With Neil Degrasse Tyson) the Meteorite Men (Science Channel) Cash and Treasures (Travel Channel) as well as the NEW series called The United Stats of America on the History Channel.

As a professional meteorite dealer I’ve written articles and been featured in numerous newspapers and magazines like, Sky and Telescope, Iguana, Meteorite and Meteorite Times magazines.

My sons and I are also featured in the new book, “What’s So Mysterious about Meteorites?” by the authors of the most popular “Rocks From Space” - O. Richard Norton and Dorothy Sigler Norton.

Cool but its got to be worth more then 2 dollars!!!!

If you want to determine what its real market value is try putting it on eBay. Typically things go there for a bit more than their true worth, but that's the closest to a free market that I know of and you will get a sense of what it's worth. I would be willing to bet you $100 that it will get bid up less than $2 if you put it on eBay for $0.01 as the starting bid with an honest description of what it is and where you got it from.

ok cool thats all good im just saying unless you hold the item in your own hands and see it in person with your own eyes then you cant guarantee me that you are a hundred percent sure thats all im saying

I questioned Terry about his comment on the meteorite forum and in his reply he told me he believes if it tested iron-nickel its possible to be a meteorite. I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion. I invited him to join the discussion and place his vote.

DIAZ the man is a professional. He has a reputation to protect. He didnt say he was 99 percent sure. He said 100 percent! That means there is no doubt in his mind. He buys and sells meteorites for a living and he didnt even show any interest or offer to buy. He didnt ask for more pics did he? Did he ask to fly out and see it?. It doesnt look anything like a meteorite. How many more professional opinions do you need?

lol I guess its a matter of opinion. Well its caught my attention and I guess I will see it through.

For what its worth Im now leaning toward some kind of weight. It was tossed away when the eye broke off.

And my vote is..... I don't know. I talked to Hunter by PM. It is VERY encouraging that it tested positive for nickel. That is the way most extraterrestrial rocks are identified. An official opinion from a university geology lab is in order. I have read O. Richard Norton's books and have them within 10 feet of me now. I also have 2 or 3 of Robert Haag's books. He autographed one for me a few years ago. I am very interested in meteorites and have read extensively on them. I hope this item is one yet I am not an "expert", so my comments can only be opinion. I will find my own space rock soon... probably up at Gold Basin, AZ. Please let us know how this goes. Terry

Cool but just to point it out you can not change your vote. lol..........

Thank you for the input very much appreciated , and take care and once again thanks for your opinion.....:occasion14:

I voted drift or weight

Its hard to predict what someone is willing to pay. Put it on eBay with a reserve and tell the story of Bantam Lake UFO sighting and who knows.... There are several respected members that think it has value over $20. . Im not one of them.

Not trying to discourage you guys but keep in mind that practically every tool in my tool box is nickel plated.

Mandrels are coated with nickel to prevent corrosion from chemicals and prevent rust . Look it up. The one I posted was selling for $30.00 if I remember right.

You can get a used corroded one for much less.

So someone said it had nickel? Have you ever seen an anode? You need to ask yourself what would alter the surface of metal. A drill bit can. Barnacles probably don't. Viking swords probably altered by other swords but not pock marked. Electrolosis certainly would change the surface of an anode as that is what they are SUPPOSED to do. They can be made of several metals:
Sacrificial anodes works on the principle similar to electrolysis, according to which if an anode and a metallic strip are dipped in electrolytic solution, anode electron will dissolve and deposit over the metallic strip and make it cathode. In the case of a ship, sea water acts as an electrolyte and transfers the electrons from the anode by oxidizing it over the steel plate and making a protecting layer. If the metal is more active it will be easily oxidized and will protect the metallic compound by making it act as cathode. The anode will corrode first sacrificing itself for the other compound and it is thus called sacrificial anode.
Electromotive series or galvanic series metals
Anode materials
Magnesium(Mg)
Aluminium(Al)
Zinc (Zn)
Chromium(Cr)
Iron(Fe)
Nickel(Ni)
It can be seen from the table that for protecting iron any material above in the series are useful. These metals are preferred because they are easy and cheap to replace the anodes rather than complete a large sheet of metal.

So, Why is this NOT the obvious? Humor me. ;-)
