LOL, Monty you sound like you have seen enough of these things. I can't help myself, I have to google them every time they pop back up :BangHead:

OMG!!!!! I just went blind........Please take them awaaaaaaaaaaayyyy.........NGE

I have actually seen these magical Pignuts. (Great name!!) I have lived overseas twice while becoming the first American to hold season tickets to my one true love, Arsenal Football Club. I am kidding about the first American season ticket holder but... Hhmmm, I do not remember another Yank. I have also hit the soccer World Cup in 1986 when my Dad took me to Mexico for a few matches, missed 1990, caught 1994 in the US, 98 in France, missed 2002 Japan/Korea, and caught 2006 Germany.

I have a soccer jersey collection that has 350+ jerseys. I also caught the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. I would never, ever think that what I saw and held had diddly squat to do with either the WC or the Olympics in an official capacity. They try and sell just about everything not chained down, too.

After carefully pondering these darn things I have a completely outlandish guess.

Korea did very well in the 2002 World Cup. Possibly an industrial plant employee made them for the type of game described from bits and pieces of some similar designs. Basketball is not popular in Korea and they are distinctly made with a basketball motif. Koreans were very proud of their finish which could have provided the impetus for their creation. I can assure you that through years and years of collecting sports related items they were not intended to be made for any kind of large scale distribution.

SO... I have it narrowed down to a rogue industrial plant employee in Korea who came to the US, found a strange looking pitch, and left them there before returning home to Asia.

Or most likely, they were prototypes. That is the ONLY logical half thought I could conjure and I am rarely stumped in matters of the heart, otherwise known as soccer. They are quite a sight, though!!

The mystery, much like the song, remains the same. No new tale to tell. I will gladly add $50 to the pot if anyone can successfully ID these things!!

"notify me" not anymore. i'm stopping the madness....
they appear to me to be the korean jacks things. there was a picture of plastic ones.... :hello:

during the worlds fair around here there were pendants made to commemorate the sunsphere, a building erected to show off the fair site. they were made of a plated-base metal, or so everyone thought that i have spoken to. well, i somehow ended up with one stamped 14k from a coin dealer. now, i ain't complaining but it's just to point out trinkets were made in different materials to commemorate special events.

there are plenty of commemorative medals or coins made in bronze, silver and gold. the average joe only sees the bronze or brass examples, sometimes the silver but rarely the gold examples.

i have kept up with the posts on this topic waiting for the check mark. quack quack like a duck...must be a duck! they were found where they were last played with. i would think they were affordable so as to make a nice gift to bring home to a loved one.

All I can say is if all of you are tired of this post, all you have to do is uncheck the "notify me", and quit answering to it because that brings it to the top every time you do. Less than 25% have stated they believe that is what they are. 76% are uncertain, and there are some that really would like to see these actually identified. So if you are tired, and don't want to see it anymore, just uncheck your notification, but don't belittle the ones that are interested. No one forces anyone to read these threads, it is your own option.

I Have No problem Believing they
are Gonjji stones. but as long as the owner
want's to see provenance,
I see no problem.

I'd like to see a Package of them Also.

Just to be absolutely Sure they wern't made to Look
like Gonjji stones, But Used as Cleats or ?

I know this has gone on for a long time, and I know that they do "look" like the plastic Gongi stones, but I also know that a lot of research by a lot of dedicated people have gone into solving this....and it remains unproven to this day. There has been one person who said they had seen these, but they produced nothing. I also have had the only other person who has actually seen and held these, to state we are all off base, and he is a sports collector I would classify as an expert. So, if Jeff doesn't mind, I would like to keep this going in hopes someone new will finally put an end to this "nightmare". Those that don't want to keep up, or read it anymore have the option to opt out, and I thank you for all you have done. I however, am still not convinced.

Oh, but I agree with you, it IS a nightmare!

jeff of pa you are right...the green check is owner option! all members care about an id, including me, or it wouldn't still be current.

the members are amazing in research. each of us are unique! any of us could still help on this one...or even the alaska thingy....not!

what really doesn't make sense about the jacks idea anyway?
one poster said he actually saw similar ones while overseas and the picture is missing what...?

go back and read the posts from september.
most are talking about the 'never ending' thread or revisiting previous guesses, or asking questions that have already been asked, or saying jacks/gonjjii....

so, i read yours....you read mine....why is mine so stifling or regarded as belittling?

This is why I don't believe.
1) Only 1 person out of the THOUSANDS that have looked at the has said they have seen them, and all we have on that is their word....nothing else.
2) Gongi stones idea came about by a post I made from 1 Korean girl who suggested that is what they MIGHT be.
3) There has only been 1 picture of a PLASTIC toy that resembles these on Ebay.

There just isn't enough to prove that is what they are. I don't mind the newcomers asking the same questions, because I know there is a whole lot of reading to do to see what has been done. Who knows, we might get lucky and one of those newcomers might have the answer. The thing that matters is that NEW blood is looking at them, and yes, the same old questions and suggestions will come up.

Been to about 5 of these stores, and yes they do sell other things besides food. I have ask, I have shown, and NO ONE recognizes them as being Gongi stones. These are Koreans I have contacted. They have no idea as to what they are. There were complaints about rehashing old ideas. All of this we have been over and over. I am not going to argue with you over this, but all of this we have already been over. Show me something new.

Seen the video long ago when this first came up. They knew axactly what Gongi stone are, and said they didn't recognize these as being them.

Reflections don't show or prove anything. Reflections can come off of anything wet, made of glass, plastic, or any number of ways. We have been through all of this before, and you were involved. Unless we can show something new, I'll just sit back and wait for the suprise guest with the mysterious answer. Over and out.

Using keyword "gong ki" got this result:

Another multi- colored plastic set with sparkles. But the key here I think is the OLYMPIC RINGS. :icon_thumright:

I always thought so too but I remember reading that the rings are not always on licensed products. They are used without permission a lot of times and who ever "steals" the logo is usually in and out of business so fast that they can't catch them. Maybe searching counterfiet olympic products could come up with something. :dontknow:
