gotta be the record,, no?

Ok a quick search revealed you are correct, Ralph. The 2002 Fifa World Cup and the 2002 14th Asian games are separate events in the same year. The 2002 Formula One Grand Prix Racing in Japan is also a separate event, taken place at the same time, were a German won. The Olympics are also separate. The only connection is that they were all played in Asia (Japan I think), except the Olympics. But they are Olymipic atheletes.

There are only two piggnutts with a proven Asian connection IMO. I suppose they could be American. I dunno.

there were the 2002 winter olympics in Salt Lake city
other than that I have no idea why the rings,,, thats why I want that last nut IDd

Are there any Winter Olympic games portrayed? Is basketball a winter game?

the last nut?

I just found this post. Check it out, I'm not the only one with these. I have ask him if he knows what symbol the unknown is.

Dear friends,

I am trying to identify maker, distributor or retailer of what appear to be Gongi game pieces found buried in the ground on a football field in Waco,Texas,USA, using a hobby metal detector. These pieces have the following features:

-Comparable in diameter to our US Lincoln Memorial penny.
-Octagonal shaped perimeter (8 flats).
-All pieces found to date have image of basketball player
making a "slam-dunk" shot over the net rim on one side and
a different image on the reverse side.
-Reverse sides have one of the following engravings or
images: World Cup, 2002, Race Car, Five Olympic Circles,
Basketball, Netball.
-All pieces appear to be cast of pewter and copper plated

I'm guessing that these items were produced to commemorate the 2002 Olympic games, jointly hosted by Korea and Japan.

Ideally,I am looking for proof-positive identification, such as an advertisement showing a picture of the game pieces, with the name and address of the seller. However, any information that you can provide that might lead to a positive identification will be appreciated.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at my Email address below.

Thanks very much!

Who's to say what's top and what's bottom, but his has the race car and 2002 on the other side of the guy shooting hoops where mine don't. Could this be a clue that there is more than one set of these?

Could be, I'm hoping to hear back from him. I sent him pictures of mine, and a link to this post. Guess we will just have to wait and see. I really hope he did find some others, and sends me pic that I can share. It would be nice to know that others had been found.

I'm talking to Jeff now. He is the deciding factor.

well topic says "what are they?" so i guess in all reality the answer "Gongi stones" pretty much does solve it,

but I still want to know more about them, I want to see another set with the package, not sure how long Tnet will let us use this topic in "what is it?"

for that. I hope they do but, that just me. :icon_sunny:

It has now been changed from solved to HOT. Thanks Jeff, I think there are a lot of people who are still very interested in finding what these really are, and what they represent. A lot of good folks have put an amazing amount of time into this trying to get to the bottom of it all. My thanks go out to each and every one, even if sometimes it has got a little rocky. The answer is here somewhere.

well who ever made those things I'm sure they didn't go to all the time and trouble to make just one set.

maybe there are others with a different theme..., i gotta think there would be. for example maybe they made some for car people, like nuts with ford, chevy, dodge, etc
or different years of sports 1999 or 2000,,, more sets just different themes,

That would be great to find that there are other sets, or themes. Anything made of metal that look like these. That would pretty much sew this whole thing up. Like I said, I can't be the only one who has these, or I found the only set made. Someone has the answer. We just haven't come across that missing link yet. I guess I will have to go and try and find more as soon as the weather clears up.
