So, I'm leaning more and more to the graphics industry and used for printing. I know the world cup would be backwards when printed but not for a double reverse system.

Hello again, Piggman:
In our newspaper today was a jewelry advertisement that included a piece that caught my eye and I immediately thought of these piggnuts. :) I'm posting a scan of the item to illustrate what I'm talking about.

Piggnuts bracelet.webp

If you'll imagine this piece being manufactured with elasticize cord connecting hex-shaped, open sided holders evenly spaced around the bracelet and your mystery pieces jam-fitted into the holders so that each side could be seen in its own "time", then you would have a "cheap" souvenir bracelet, necklace, or hat band (seeing that you're in Texas). The bracelet / hatband could be made with one, two, or three strands of elasticized cord.
What do you think ??

That's a good idea, but there is no evidence to indicate that anything ever connected to the sides to make the piece you show. All sides are smooth.

As I was suggesting, the bracelet would have hex-shaped shells into which the buttons you found could be jammed fitted into the shells so that both sides could be seen once they were in place. The shells would be connected by the elastized cords--not the buttons themselves.

I see what you are saying. That's is definately something think about.

I sent the pics to a friend who is a DJ at one of Boston's most popular radio stations.. I asked if he would put it on their website for their listeners to look at.. they get thousands of views.. Lets wait and see. :D

Nice find, i think they are ink stamps for kids to use on paper. i would keep them around they could be from the good old days? maybe the 50's :)
The writing would be backwards.

And why would a manufacturer in the 50s pick the year 2002 to inscribe on one of the nuts?

Ok, everybody, this has to stop. I have read through this entire thread and have come to a conclusion. This mystery is big. Bigger than any of us. But piggman, you have to let it go. You have spent far too long researching this. Maybe we were not meant to find out what they are. Maybe this mystery was meant to remain unsolved. :-\

i'm hooked on this thread, somebody find out what these things are, i allways look at this thread when i see a new post has been made. i'm a new member but i found this thing before i joined t-net. somebody heeeeeeeeeelp me----lol dang somebody has to know what they are, they are just being mean and not telling.... ;D

I just can't believe that something so relatively "new" is unidentifiable.
strange and wonderous at the same time.
I'm fascinated, and jeez, I just want to know what they are at this point!!

in 2002 Huffy Sports did a recall on there portable basketball hoops . The Bolts exposed caused unjury > they offered free bolt covers for these exposed bolts > could this be what these are ?? The basketball player looks like one of their logos ??

Ok, see if this helps, kinda sounds like the pieces you found. I googled "game pieces made to resemble a lug nut, features basket ball, car racing and the olympic symbol". This is what I found.

"Sporting event logo matching/memory game
I found several two-sided octagonal shaped metal "game" pieces. They all have a generic logo on one side and a sporting event on the other - Olympic Rings, World Cup spelled out, Soccer or netball, vintage roadster racing car. They are hollow and look like a hex nut with engraved brass or bronze logos on each end. I can send photos. I can not find anything about these. They were found metal detecting in Texas. Thanks,Daryl "

Maybe you could contact this fella and ask him what it is called. (or not, lol). Just my 2 cents and part of my last brain cell, Maggie
