Fishing for Silver- Fish On!s CRH Log

I haven't had any extra time for the last couple of days to ask at random banks, so I haven't been finding any "supplemental" silver. I picked up two more of my ordered half boxes today:

Box 1: Skunk
Box 2: 1x40% 2x NIFC Clad Proofs ('04, '05)

I have four boxes to pick up tomorrow. I'm thinking I may have to try supersizing my orders again next week. It really isn't manageable for me to do 17 or 18 boxes in a normal week, but I want to anyway :laughing7:

I hear ya, I wish I could do large volume too. Good luck!

Thanks. I made up my mind today. I'm going around tomorrow placing orders like a mad man. I actually just realized that some of these new branches I've been ordering from open early enough for me to pick up before work and one or two are open late enough on their order days for me to pick up after work, so that actually means I might be able to expand my "normal" volume a bit.

Slow end to a slow week. I picked up my last four boxes of ordered halves today:

Box 1: skunk
Box 2: 1x90% (Franklin) 1 clad proof
Box 3: skunk 1 clad proof
Box 4: skunk

At least today wasn't a complete skunk and I'm happy the one silver I did find today was a good one. Today marks the end of the first four months I have been hunting to the day. In that time I've found 8 franklin halves in MWR's so a full roll by the end of the year might not be out of the question.

Sweet! Congrats on your 4 month milestone achieved! Good luck ordering like a mad man today :P I love older 90% ers. How many walkers do you have? They are so rare for me m I only have 6 in the 6 years I've been hunting halves by the boxes.

I have three walkers, but I bought one of them from a LCS two weeks ago because I had given up on finding one in rolls. Then of course the following week I upped my volume and found two in my boxes.

I completely abandoned my plan of upping my volume today. I wanted more silver now, so I went on a road trip looking for silver. A couple of my order banks are open tomorrow, so I'll try to place orders tomorrow.

Here is a pic from yesterday I forgot to upload:

Today I did a road trip to a really rich area pretty far from home with mediocre results. I probably hit 40 or so banks and the silver I found wouldn't even cover my gas, but I probably would have driven farther to fish anyway and any silver getting added to the pile is ok with me. Most of the banks I hit had no halves in the teller trays. I did eventually find 1 40%'er from a teller tray today. I also dumped at a lot of banks along the way to look for rejects and grab the foreigns. I was surprised by how little foreign I found. I did however find a 1941 canadian nickel which I think is mostly nickel, but I'm not sure if it's worth anything. I also found another silver washington quarter in one of the reject tubes.

I ended up getting to a bank that had a box of halves, but it ended up being someone's dumps. Oh well, you gotta play to win.

You weren't skunked, that's a plus! Good luck ordering tomorrow.!

Thanks. I spent about 8 hours on the road hunting. It definitely wasn't a great score, but I was happy to just not get skunked. I had fun driving in areas that I haven't been to before. I also like talking to tellers at random banks to figure out which armored car services different areas/banks use.

I was successful placing more orders today. As of now I have a total of 14 boxes coming in next week. I want to order more tomorrow, but I think 14 is about the most I can do right now in a normal week. I wish I could find more order banks that are on different days of the week. Even if I upped the volume per bank at my normal pickup banks, I'd still have trouble with all the dumping and picking up in the same days.

Awesome! I should have 6 boxes coming in this week but will try for at least 7 next week. Possibly 9 if I place an order at one of my less frequented brinks supplied bank but brinks is really bad in my area.

Good luck. Brinks is really bad in my area too. That's why I steer clear of them.

Hello all im new to the game of coin roll hunting and have been doing it for about 2 months now. All i can say is why the heck didnt i start sooner!!! I get to drive around a lot for work so i come across many banks each day. Banks really are giving away free money the hardest part is finding it. So far my finds have been 5 90% half dollars and 41 40% half dollars. So far i've never gone a week without finding any silver and I'm trying to keep up the trend. Today was a bad day as i got skunked from 4 banks. Its only monday though so we'll see what the week brings me.. Just some added info all my finds have been by just calling the banks and taking what they have...i have only done about 4 boxes so far all of which i was skunked. Ill be sure to post my findings daily.

Last two boxes of the week today:

Box 1: Skunk
Box 2: 1-40% 'er

The second box was odd. Almost every roll had a couple of coins that looked like someone paint them with light blue paint or something to make them look like silver. They really didn't look like silver. All through the box, I was thinking to myself that someone has way too much free time on their hands. I still checked every one of the blue coins and lo and behold one of them was a 1968 D. So my question is: Did someone get so caught up with painting clad that they accidentally painted a 40% 'er or is this some kind of rusting that took place on these coins. I'm really hoping it is the former because I think that would be a fitting reward for the mo mo that spends all his time painting coins.

Can you post a picture of the "painted" clad?

Did you look for Type 2s?

Nope, I didn't look for type twos. I probably end up with 20-30 Ikes a month in my travels. I think I looked for Type II's once, but I don't have a loupe so it was difficult. I found one possible Type II, but I think I ended up spending it. Are they worth money?

You could make a few dollars on one usually. Did you look for any errors in those uncirculated rolls of state quarters? There are a lot to look for, and some could be worth a lot, especially when they are uncirculated.

The other thing I am thinking about is saving as much as I can for a year or so and then taking a free trip to Niagara Falls.

I think this is a better option. I doubt you can fully finance your trip, but it should be an incentive to go.

I really don't check for errors or anything like that. I mostly hunt for silver. If I can grab free clad, foreign, etc from coins machines I do. Also, if I notice a proof or a neat coins I will keep it, but mostly I just look for silver. Since that's my main goal I edge and sound check. I find plenty of proofs just by edge checking since the rim is wider. Other than that I just figure I am better off using the time I would spend looking for errors on increasing my volume instead.

So far I have around $15 in free canadian coins I've taken from the magnets of the counters. I've only been scraping the magnets for a few weeks, so it adds up pretty quick.

A roller coaster of a day

Today was supposed to be a large volume day. I had ten boxes of halves on order for today. I picked up six of them early in the morning. I searched four of the six before going to pick up the final four. Out of the first four I searched I found exactly one roughed up clad proof. I felt like I was taking a ride through skunksville. After work I went to pick up my last four boxes from one branch. They informed me that the order got messed up with the holiday week (ie, an excuse so they didn't have to say they forgot). They assured me that they will have four boxes for me next wednesday, so I'm not really upset about it. I then searched box five which was also a skunk. At this point I'm getting frustrated and just want to blow through the last box. The last box actually turned out to be one of the better boxes I've ever had and salvaged the day:

Box 1: skunk
Box 2: skunk
Box 3: skunk
Box 4: skunk
Box 5: skunk
Box 6: 4x90% (3-64's, 1-'62 Franklin) 3x40%

Although I spent most of today frustrated I actually ended up averaging over one silver per box, so I'm pretty happy with that.

I have four more boxes to pick up on Friday. I hope they are all like box 6. My large volume week is actually going to only end up being ten boxes (assuming the other branches ordered)
