It is always outside the boundary. Hence the trespassing.

It is amazing to me how people think they are owed and allowed to do anything they want.

It is theft, and trespassing, 2 crimes right there. An by defending my property I am some sort of thug? Get f@#king real.

I have spent many an early morning crouched behind my trash can, ready to ambush anyone who would dare touch my precious garbage. As cars drove by I would stand in front with hands on hip and proudly declare "This is mine, Let no man cast his eyes upon it". This is my Taco Bell napkin, my snotty Kleenex, my empty Budweiser can, my 17th century Ming Dynasty carved Rhinoceros ceremonial drinking cup! ...

Ryaan, it can only be trespassing if you have posted a No Trespassing sign. Also, it has been ruled in the supreme court that once your garbage hits the curb, you have already given up your ownership of it. This is why paparazzi and detectives can go through your trash legally. The first 6 feet of your yard is PUBLIC property in most states, including the sidewalk. If you "beat someone" for digging in your trash, the only crime that has been committed is assault, by you.

Also, it has been ruled in the supreme court that once your garbage hits the curb, you have already given up your ownership of it. ScubaFinder is right ... Once you put it out any one can take it,...It's not yours any more..................... And it is just trash to you .... You threw it away now when some one takes it you get up set....... And want to fight over trash.................I don't under stand why any one would fight over there trash ?................ You should be happy that some one is geting rid of it for you....

Some one is takeing your trash stuff you don't want.................. So go pound on them then sit in jail ...... Sounds pretty stupid to me.......... But if you like jail go ahead .......... Myself i don't dumpster dive........... And i do not protect my garbage.......................

I think my method helps avoid all problems....if you don't want someone garbage picking...smash the stuff and they won't want it. Cured the problem for me and there wasn't any confrontation.

And no, i don't sit outside watching the garbage, but it amazes me these days what people think they can get away with. Like the people who tried raiding the dumpster after my and brother who posted above, dad died.

Frickin guy wasnt even cold yet and the scum of society thought they were gonna go dumpster diving.....didnt happen.

How in the h3!! does a thread bout dumpster diving turn angry Instead of smashin everything u dont want why not donate it to others who may have a use for it? So if you put ur trash out and ur yard is posted does that mean the guy doin garbage route is trespassing? I have dumpster dived and picked through trash for years in va. i always take care not to make a mess.
If i see someone in the yard i always ask.....can i have this. they always say yes. Several times they walk over to me and ask are you recycling? or are you gonna use that? i make small talk and be honest with them. Several times they have asked me, do you clean out buildings and yards? I have got some really good things this way. Some have actually paid me to haul away their stuff to the landfill. so i save what i can sell,use or scrap, the rest goes to the landfill. And i get gas money to boot.

I gotta quit going to the dump.

We have this transfer station down the road from the house.

It's just a ramp with two big butt dumpsters on the edge.

Well the wife and I go drop off our trash about once a week.

Every time I go, I come home with about as much stuff as I dropped off.

Yestersdays take:

A brand new George Forman Burger Cooker.

A working Black and Decker 3/8ths drill

7 wrinches of various sizes

a paper schredder working.

a AM/FM radio working looks new.

a little one room Ion machine.

A very upset County Worker looking down in the Dumpster Yelling at me to Get ta Ell out of there!

Im not angry at all my profile says I do it all. Started dumpster diving when I was a kid and will always ask people if they dont mind if I could have what they are throwing out. Found a fortune in diving and garage sales. Was laid off for seven months and made my house payments on buying and reselling what I find. Plus I have many collections like I know we all save something thats just for us. My only regret is I cant pick the garbage at 1600 Pennsylvania ave.

Stealing from someones garbage is pretty low. It is on private property. How would you not expect to get beat while you are doing something illegal?

Lesson to learn... The area from the sidewalk to the street is not private property. It is public property....

That's if you have a sidewalk, we don't have a sidewalk at all on my street.

I don't recall being angry buzz, I just think it's rude and absurd to go fishing around in someones garbage. And in this case it wasn't like we had the stuff out on the curb, it was in a dumpster in my moms yard.
