Are you kidding? One of the worst things to happen around here was when all the cities and counties here in South Florida went to the "huge bin" one-man truck garbage collection system. Prior to that I typically found hundreds of dollars worth of valuable stuff - machines, computers, books, paintings, lamps, tools, etc - in the trash folks left on the side of the road beside their modest-sized trash cans, which were full of kitchen refuse and papers in plastic bags, and were simply too small to throw lots of things into. But these huge bins can accept computers, sewing machines, almost anything fits in those monsters, in addition to the bagged trash. This really hurt my income. Not to mention that of the garbage can tossers who lost their jobs.
I still find some stuff on the monthly bulk pickup day, but just a dribble by comparison. For one thing, there are a dozen guys in trucks cruising the same streets now on bulk pickup day. Since bulk pickup is on a different day for every neighborhood, they follow the circuit now. Previously, all these guys did not make it out to my area twice a week for regular trash pickups - they had their own trash pickups elsewhere. I often had the pick of the litter (pun intended) many days, and sometimes didn't see a single other picker.
When the powers that be made this change, I'm sure there was no thought given to the "gleaners" who depended on picking up valuable items twice a week.
BTW, have you noticed how people leave nice stuff - particularly china - in discarded moving boxes?
