I'm not sure which I like better Dumpster Diving or Metal Detecting. The Diving has been better to me then the Detecting that's forsure.

I dive for a second living pretty much...

I love getting dirty and Everydays a good day at some point.

Takes away from my detecting though.

Most coinage found in the garbage comes from someone who just didn't bother to look in the boxes they took down from the attic while cleaning out the house. I remember finding 2 silver dollars that were in a big coffee cup that had pencils and pens in it. I took the stuff out of the cup and there they were. Couple times I got half dollars from inside of a books. The biggest haul of coinage came from 1 box. I opened up the box and the first thing that I saw was beer stein that was 3/4 full with change. The rest of the money was in a wooden box. They never opened the box to see what was in it before they tossed it.

The answer to the Silver Bob question is:
I use to be just Des Plaines IL Bob but in 2006 I was finding a lot of silver coins while M D so I put the silver in there. In reality I should be JUNK Collector Bob

Back in the 80's a certain fast food restaurant had a promo going with John Mellencamp's "Little Pink Houses" CD, and the first prize was an actual house, painted pink. The guy that won was a sanitation worker, and he got the winning game piece from a soda cup someone had left sitting atop a trash can.

Found a bran new IDC weed wackin machine. Asked the people if I could Take it . He said something like *&^^% ,,,)---+%$$$$, peace of crap! Take it!

Got it home and of course it would not start. Checked the feul tank and it was black. Dumped it out put some mix in it and it ran fine.

He had put a whole bottle of 2 stroke oil in the tank. Sorta felt bad about keeping it! Yea Right!

WOW!! I grab stuff off the curbs, but have not found a lot of the great stuff you guys have. The town where I used to live had a city-wide cleanup twice a year and I once picked up a gas stove that was just a couple of years old and worked fine. Also got a dryer that I used for a year or two until the heating element went out. Other than that, I was mostly just looking for scrap metal.

The place I live now does not have designated times of the year to set out large amounts of garbage, but I cruise through the neighborhoods just before trash day and still find lots of scrap. Although, I have found a few excercise machines that maybe should have been cleaned up and sold rather than just going to the scrapyard.

Probably my best find, though, was a couple of weeks ago. I saw a couple of dryers and an aluminum storm door in a yard and I asked the lady if I could take them. She said they belonged to her friend so I gave her my number and asked her to call me and let me know. I ended up getting that stuff and then the lady asked me if I also wanted a pair of clothesline poles and a CAR!! I told her, "Sure". That was a great find!!

Neighbor was throwing this Ariens 7hp Snowblower out last week. Grabbed it really quick.
Drained the old gas out. Pulled the carburetor bowl off and cleaned it out. Put a new needle valve in it too.
Took me all of 15 minutes. Runs great now... Showed it to a guy from work, he said. " I'll buy it ".
SOLD!!!!!!!!! $175.00
What people will toss out.............!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dumpster Diver Pro here. Man when i lived in columbus Ohio,( biggest college in U.S. i found enuff stuff to furnish 3 house's no joking and talk about jewelry. Rings for every finger-Gold-silver-turqouise-u name it. I hear theres a law there now, not sure ain't lived there in 14 yrs. I showed my girlfriend what i was finding and to this day( been with her 16yrs. ) she makes me take her junking. She found diam. rings and bracelet and ear rings matchins set about 4 yrs ago in Florida and she's hooked. LOL We now live in Ashland K.Y. and while the picking are slim we still find the goodies. Have found money also but not as good as yours. HH and DDing all Tom

was out knockin about in small town cornfield land. doin the CRH THANG. after about 6 banks and no keepers.plus some less than polite tellers i was in the mood to bite someones head off.not a good day. as i cruised thru a side street everything changed when i spotted a medium pile of brass and copper pipes from a bathroom remodeling put out at the curb.i LEAPED not walked over to it.it was inside my car in like 10 sec. the 40 to 50 dollars i know its worth made me feel much better

IM 49 YEARS OLD NOW. BUT WHEN I WAS YOUNG I LIKED TO BUILD CLUB HOUSES , AS I THINK WE ALL DID. I HAD MY SPOTS WHERE AFTER CLOSING HOURS I WOULD PICK UP THE LUMBER AND LOL TRIED TO RIDE MY BIKE THE SAME TIME. WHILE SEARCHING I FOUND A ROLEX WATCH WITH A BROKEN BAND. I SHOWED MY PARENTS, AND DECIDED TO TURN IT INTO THE POLICE. WELL A MONTH LATER NO ONE ASKED FOR IT SO THEY GAVE TO ME WHICH I GAVE IT MY FATHER WHO IS 89 YEARS OLD AND STILL IS WEARING IT. EVER SINCE THEN IVE BEEN A DUMPSTER DIVER.

guess im a regular here,just cant keep my hands out of the garbage.passing thru a sm town and saw some fishing rods sticking out of a pile.so i always stopfor fishing or anything else that looks interesting. get them rods.look for loose good other.grab up 2 trashbags that look non kitchen waste on quick inspect and split.im always a little nervous in the trashers drive way.trashee [me] scores. junk to look thru and some pretty dirty [think floor sweepings and dust not maggots and food ick. total take : kids t shirt of star wars need wash but logo still bright and lucasfilm copyright 1983 return of the jedi.4 spinning reel owner manual.8 boat manf catalog going back to early 80s.10 mixed 90s cycle atv mags.9 early 90s all color rock and roll metal music mags.10 assorted circus guitar playerhit parader etc,from same era.88 pennies.150 marbles vintage in sewn shut jean pantleg homemade bag.wearable wristwatch compass.2 rods. fish lure.2 boyscout uniform shirts loaded with badges and pins [34]scout hat.14 vintage models and varoius parts cement paint etc.5 smaller ice fishing rods.a nice pairsilverplate earrings.lastly biggest find to me and im not sure what old marbles sell for.2 very nice old all metal fishing reels one of a strange flat style ive nevr seen [johnson model 80].lotsa fun for no dough.see u at the curb!

Around here it's getting harder since they implemented these new garbage cans that can fit a small car into them.
Now this week the town over is doing the same.
Puts a big damper on finding good stuff now.....
