Dont tell its a secret!

Look what he was digging into. Thats what got him inside the mine.

Looks like the same type of loose rock mine we found, you could tell it was slowly collapsing, one good sneeze and tons of rock could fall in.

The story of Al's death, as I remember it, was that he went into the shaft to get out of a rainstorm. That was something Al had warned my uncle to never do, as it was too dangerous under those conditions.

The only thing you would find in that is placer gold and it is very dangerous. Even digging on the hillside that stuff can fall on your head. As it did to Al in the end.

John,

What are we supposed to be looking at? :dontknow:

the 140 lb gold ingots under the red look line

I know because my friend and I tried picking it up, but how you going to carry this up mountain sides?

Funny thing about Caliche, it gets soft when water is added then dry's like a rock again.

If I recall correctly, it was the big boulder right at the entrance to his mine that got him. He always said that is what he was scared of too.

I think that if I had any thought that a big boulder at the entrance of my mine might kill me one day, I would make it a point to roll that thing out of the way. HAHAHA

If that is correct (I do not know) about the boulder, then that photo is rather ironic and even a bit weird if you think about it.

John,

You write "gold ingots" meaning more than one, and then write "tried picking it up". I did blow your picture up and couldn't make out anything. Why didn't you move in closer and take your picture? How can you be sure they/it weighed 140# if you left them/it there?

Hook up with Mike (Gollum) and take him to the location. He can probably pack it out on his own.

Good luck,

Joe Ribaudo

I will show you a better photo next week, up close... When I get home. I'm in Canada at this time.

I'll arm wrestle Gollum for a chance to pick up something like that.......................say the loser gets to carry the gold and keep it :laughing7:

I volunteer to HOLD the gold while you guys do the arm wrenching, of course I will need your vehicle keys too, and about a ten second head start! :notworthy:

Mike,

Al and Chuck were friends. Al often did searches for my uncle and would go into AJ and call him with the results. He showed Chuck the original location of the Cactus Marker.

Chuck told me Al went into his mine to get out of the rain and the boulder came down on him. Chuck did not believe that story, because of his being warned to stay out of the shaft when it rained. He believed Al was murdered.

Take care,

Joe

I recall seeing a photo and the body was in the mine. A side shaft with a big rock on top of him

Eric when we were at the ore cart mine if I would have found a gold bar I would have left it laying there. Enough getting my ass out of there let alone carrying a gold bar.

Frank,

Thing is, Eric would have carried you and the gold bar(s) out on his back.:laughing7:

Take care,

Joe
