Do you need hunting spots??? TRY THIS!!! @@

Ok, I just got FOUR more responses tonight from my CraigsList post!!
I seriously think I need to "omit" the part about being "more than happy to split whatever I find", because now ALL of the good ones seem to be responding for a split! Arg. :'(

What do ya' think?

Bran <><

we need to hook up,i own my home just baught it,it was built here in 1885,im positive it is full of relics it is one of the oldest houses in springfield, there would be only 2 conditions 1. we split everything,2.i have a metal detector iv had for 2 years and i need you to show me how to use the damn thing lol anyway i have about 1/3 to 1/2 acre hit me up and let me know what ya think...

Hi Brandon:
What part of town do you live in?
I'm near Hiland Dairy, in a 1913 house. Will be tilling and liming my back yard soon 'cuz previous occupants raised pit bulls. Owned the house since '04 and it still smells bad so I guess I'm gonna till come (early April?).
Knowing that, if you are still interested in a split, email back.

Well done Bran. You may need to hire a digging team soon. ;D Sounds like you may want to eliminate the "split" part, and just offer some of the relics to those that ask for some.
Great job. You'll be busy now.

I got in touch with my 2nd responder and he's got 2 old houses over 100 yrs. old. He wants a 50-50 split which is fine with me. Thanks again. The otherMM.

Thanks MM!
I really do appreciate you sharing your tactics with us T-Net buddies!! Well I sent out all my responses this morning, then posted a new one on CraigsList WITHOUT the "split" part in there. Hopefully I still get responses, minus the demanding splits. I'm still planning on trying to find enough to offer some of my finds to the owners, because I want them all to enjoy the history that Springfield has to offer. Plus, I can see it being more special to them, knowing the finds came from their land. :)
Hmm, a "digging team"... I might have my first recruit in that last batch of e-mails!

Thanks again MM...

So, just as an update... maybe I should delete my CraigsList post, then cease & desist!!!! lol

I had some random guy send me an e-mail of a link to another post on CL, asking for a man with a metal detector to come to their property and "look for stuff". Well, turns out the guy that e-mailed me lives in a trailer park and just saw this guy's ad, as well as my ad, and decided to send me the link! I e-mailed the other guy, and this was his response back (the first one I have that doesn't want a "split")

Give me a call, 000-0000, we live in ozark, my house is over 150 yrs old and belonged to a civil war captain. I figure there might be something cool laying around.

So that leaves me with this total over the last 4 days of posting to CL...

* A property that had a Civil War encampment on it...
* A home (one of the oldest in Springfield) built in 1885, another home built in 1913...
* 15 rental property/homes - a block from an old 1863 grave yard (no longer there), 3 blocks from a Battle of Springfield 1863 fort site, and 2 blocks from where the Rebel skirmish was...
* A 150 year old home originally belonging to a Civil War captain...
* And then one guy in his early 20's that wants to "tag along" with me sometime. :D

Thanks again, MM... I think I'm really gonna have to get a crack-team together to help!

Dang Dude, you are on a roll!!!! Way to go. I wish I lived closer.

I would start out with #1, #2, & #4 if that was my list of choices.

#3 has 15 rental homes, and all I can think of is trash & pull tabs. ;D

Bring option #5 with you when you finally make it up to option #3, as long as he's not carrying a banjoe. :tongue3:

Great job Bran,
Doug

Well... I just hit #4 today!!! And I have a feeling that the house & property will take quite a long time!
http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,222767.new.html#new

#1 and both houses in #2 all required a "split"... but I talked to the guy in the 1913 home (in #2), and we agreed that I'll come out to detect his property when he tills the land at the beginning of April. The other two properties can be on hold, because they were a little demanding on the "split". And the lady in the 1885 house in #2... outside of the split, she ALSO says I have to show her how to use her metal detector!!?
Sounds like she's gonna learn how, then probably not invite me back for the spoils.

So I shall stick with #4 and find all the goodies there!! ;D And I hope to get some good finds so I can make a shadow box to give to the owner.

I could've used the help today! I felt like I really didn't get much done in the two or so hours I was there, mainly because of the bucket. But I'll get that thing out tomorrow!!

I did, however, get permission for Gypsyheart & the clan to come out and detect with me... if she wants to, that is.

Bran <><

"bucket"? You lost me on that one.

Gotcha...just read the bucket story. Looking at a photo of the house I would have sworn that you'd find a trunkload of goodies there! Go hit those fields. As Mel Fisher used to say every morning...."Today's the day!"

i've never really used CL... what section would you post under? services or??

thanks!!

Make sure you keep rerunning your ad every few days, otherwise it will get buried in the pile. Try different sections of C/L too. I would recommend trying your ad in different areas of C/L too. The "Wanted" , "General", and "Community" sections are where I run mine off & on. Also, put pictures in your ad of some relics and relic displays that you may have. That way the person can see what MAY be possible to be found. Good luck.

Modern Miner - Thank you for sharing, this looks very promising judging by the responses I've gotten already. Looks like I'll be doing my first hunt off the ad at a 1880's house the weekend after next. I looked at Craigslist in different cities and couldn't believe how many people took your suggestion and used it virtually word for word! I changed mine around quite a bit to make it more appropriate for me and I am indebted for the idea and would like to give something back. There's a fairly small group of dedicated collectors here on this forum and most of us are glad to share with others and I am too. But at the same time I'd prefer not to have a ton of other people who just started the hobby competing with me on my local Craigslist. I would suggest that anybody doing this make sure not to put both words "metal" and "detector" in the title or anywhere in their post. If you do anyone looking to buy a metal detector will see your post and get your idea. As a matter of fact, I kept the word metal out of my ads completely. Of course it's only a matter of time before this happens anyway, but why hasten it?

Great thread!

I'm glad to see all of you having fun!

Now, what's the deal with the lady who wants you to teach her how to use her's?

You Betcha! Of course you will help people learn how to MD! It's your hobby, right?

OK! OK! Now, if she's being a real stickler about it, and not quite friendly as you would like....
You Betcha! I'll teach you how, if you help me detect some other places after we split what we find here.

Just be real nice and cheerful about it!

thanks for the help Modern!

well I got my first reply about getting properties to detect! today she sent me her address, phone number and directions. Here is what she told me.

We live in an older home just north of *******, OH. It is located near and used to face the canal, though it has been since reoriented. During a reconstruction project, there were old building foundations and a cellar uncovered so I am sure there are many other things we are unaware of. Everytime we dig we find something fun. We recently had a barn blown down in a storm and the clean up has left multiple roofing nails throughout our yard. As we have seven children, we would love to have someone with decent metal detectors look for nails. If you would be willing to pick up the nails as you search for treasures, we would be more than willing to allow you to have anything else you find. We have picked up the majority, but are sure there are others that are "out of sight." Thanks for your consideration.

Only thing is, finding nails is gonna be TOUGH because you know when your on an old homesite, iron signals are everywhere!!!! what do i do about that?
