Outlaw Man



This version, shows real outlaw pics, but the audio is some
on the rough side. I have to turn it down. Eagles /outlaw man
/judgment day, is a noticeably smoother audio mix, but the film clips are
graphic. Hollywood portraying the very violent, and ruthless
deeds, that often took place, in the old wild west...

I would change the Able/Cain line, and
probly the some say there's a demon line also,
if I was doin this song, that's just too deep...

I think this is a good contribution, to the depiction
and expression, of the deadly outlaws perspective,
along with Doolin-Dalton, and Desperado...

I guess some of 'em said they'd been told,
Knew when they went down their own road...

This is just sort of a wild guess, but I know that
Don Henley, is originally from East Texas. That
said, there is the hints of a southern outlaw
sympathy, in their lyrics. I think that it is
possibly revealing. That some near kin,
was tied to the southwestern outlaws,
undoubtedly Confederate Guerillas...

Just a few of me thoughts on it...

Another early Bernie Leadon written tune, from '74.
Again, the then innovative, mellow miked acoustic sound...

That was a new sound for the day, and many West Coast folks,
as well as all over the country and the world, really enjoyed a lot
of those mixed, string instrument sounds. Being used similar to
the use of the instruments original roots sounds, but then,
sorta' a more modern southern bluesy style, of the south...

I like the song, though don't know about the embroidered coat
at the end of the video, but the song is a real life tribute, and
apparently, to the writer's good fallen friend...

I have been given the rare, unbelievable opportunity,
to fix and get evaluated, a few of my much loved
Scotch Indian Uncle's vintage instruments...

I'll do what repairs that I can, and get them appraised.
They are old acoustic stringed instruments. I had played
music for years with him, back in those years, when he
still played some of them...

There's three neat old Gibson acoustic guitars,
and at some time back, they were used often, through
the decades. Two of 'em are older, so they have considerable
wear. There is also an old Kay mandolin, an old banjo, old Kay
arched top guitar w/ 'F' holes, and others, not as old. One of the old
Dreadnaught Gibson Solid Spruce Flat-Top's, has beautiful, matched
deep aged burgundy colored Honduran Mahogany back and sides, an
it is from the 50's, also a 12 string, an American made 6-string ovation...

I'll fix the Southern Jumbo up, and restore it a bit. Will have to install a
bridge, and custom cut and shape a bone saddle for it, to replace the
broken one, and make a bone nut fit, at the top of the fingerboard,
to replace the missing one.

Adjust the neck truss rod, and set the action down close,
to play the easiest, and really sound great, etc.

That one, should have a super clear tone, and rich harmonic ring.
The bracing is the scalloped fan style (best), and the sound should
be as good as the best full and rich ringing tones, of the good
old ones, played in recording studios, and on pro stages.


I'll have to do a new fret job, touch up the worn fingerboard
and finish, put it together, then be the first to play and probly
hear it's sweet sound, for decades. The kind, that's been passed
down, put up, 58 yrs. old, and should have the best, highly desired,
antique old vintage American guitar tones, big smiles, I am truly honored...


I had never thought about the Gibsons being given to me
to fix up, and get estimated. Also, all of the other ones, and
then, to be able to even pick one out. An heirloom quality
piece, highly sought after, by collectors, and artists in
the industry...

An awesome, once in a lifetime surprise,
and lots of good memories, attached to it all too...

The treasured, sweet old vintage Gibson, I'll be playing
one day soon, calls for a spirited, melodic and harmonic tune...

I like the way Glen Frey, got all the members to sing in harmony,
and blend all of their voices together, as one. This performance, really
does sound pretty good, for live with analog equipment, in '77...

hall of famers now. Yes I am partial to
the classic stuff, and noticed that some
kids have heard it, and liked it too...

I have mentioned this before, but don't think it was on this forum. My dad told me this story when I was just a kid, but I always remembered it. Dad was born in 1900, so this probably happened before 1915. His dad decided to make a fiddle. Dad and his siblings were sent into the yard several times to find pieces of broken glass. Grandpa used it to scrape and shape the parts for the fiddle. Dad said it was quite a bit larger than most fiddles. They were living just outside of Alvarado, Texas at the time. If I remember correctly, it took him over a year to finish this musical instrument.
Each year there was an 'Old Fiddler's Reunion' in Alvarado. I don't know if it is still held or not. Grandpa won the grand prize several times with that fiddle.
I often wonder where that fiddle is now. Supposedly, he sold it not long before he died. Of the 10 children, none knew anymore about what happened to it; not even who bought it. I don't remember ever seeing the fiddle. He died when I was about 6 years old. He took me on my first 'hunting' trip. He came out to out to our farm one weekend. I had a little double barreled cork gun. He got Mom's dad's old 16 gauge shotgun and we went hunting. I remember a bird sitting in a persimmon tree. He told me to shoot that bird. Just as I pulled the triggers on my 'pop gun', he pulled the trigger on the old 16 gauge. He told me that I had just killed my first bird! lol

Those were both good stories Tex,

In SDC Missouri, they have a crafts festival, and
one day, I walked upon a small tent. The lady was in
her 90's, and had her beautiful teenage great grandaughter
along, and they were showing her ol' timey techniques
of fiddle making, and sharing info, etc. More than
anything, they were making music with folks,
and handed me a guitar to play...

Well, there was another young man there, that he and
I both, were so taken with the kind sweet woman, playin' her
fiddle to accompaniment, that he said I should quit playing,
because she would probly play, as long as we would. That
the poor thing, it might be too much for her. I did see
her grin a bit, as we played them, 'ol Ozark Mountain,
and old inherited, hill folk & country tunes...

Because he adored the kindly old woman too,
sawing away, dressed in 1800's dress and bonnet.
I visited a long time, and that is another good memory,
of a time that I played with good 'ol mountain folks there,
besides with the homestead pickers, down at the pickin' shed.
They had me sing 3, as we picked for a small grinnin' crowd...

The violin makers, showed how they used broken & shaped,
glass pieces, or metal, to scrape the arched shaped top and back,
and the sides, for their old classic, traditional Scotch-Irish-Welsh,
custom home made fiddles...

We did take a break after several songs, but
her great grandaughter showed everyone, she
could play anything. I reckon she could, and
very well, havin' grown up doin' that,
and evidently, really lovin' it...

When I was in my mid 20's, I used to play music with
a gentleman who was a good violin player, and one day he
asked me, if I knew the difference between a fiddle, and a violin.
I said no, I don't. He grinned and said, a violin, is a converted fiddle...
