This song selection, really brings back a lot of memories...
I had a crazy little Italian friend, who was really funny,
and was always, joking and cracking me up...
We would usually play whatever 45's, or LP's in the morning,
when we were getting ready for school. I would walk about
a half a mile, over to John Wiley's house, to 'pick him up'
for school, as early as I could. We may smoke a cigarette,
if we had one, and then when he was ready, walk about a
half of a mile, the rest of the way to the school...
There's one of the things that sticks out, that I did with John,
and that was when I stayed over with him, in his older, but
quite beautiful sister's home, in a nice home in the Hills,
(no, not hillbillies)...
After his sister, and very prosperous brother in law, left to go
out for the night, John showed me where their liquor cabinet
was, and naturally, we sampled a couple or so kinds...
There may have been rum, vodka, etc. I don't recall what
we may have mixed it in, or just sipped a taste or two. Well,
we had a blast, laughing and goofing around. No one to see
or hear us intoxicated, and we didn't do anything stupid, just
joking and carrying on, and the rest is a blur... Except, I do
remember that when his folks got home, we layed down,
and pretended to be asleep, and soon were...
They had a very nice home, and we didn't get into anything
else, except maybe the record player, and very carefully, so
as not to scratch anything. I was usually almost as fascinated
with the "B" side cut song, as with the "A" side hit, and would
listen to both sides. You know, manually flip the record over...
We were both 14, and I know that it was the first time that I
had anything, stronger than pop. His brother in law, owned
The Roller Palladium, in Pomona, CA., and we and a lot of
our other friends, would skate all evening, and then every
Fri. and Sat. nite, the band "The Other Side Of Time",
would play for the dance... They were very good,
and played a lot of the songs on the radio at the
time. That's really doing some reminiscing, and
seems like a whole other life, having moved,
and I lost contact with all but a few, of my
good 'ol school friends back then. Those
were some good days, we had fun, and
No One ever got hurt, at least not with me...
