A Couple Of Notes...
Pete's thought on the Styx, etc., concert I
took him to was, that it was 'memorable'.
But I don't think, it was because the girl
slapped me just for speaking, I wasn't
even flirting at all, just smilin' an' talkin',
'ta me English buddy...
I also took Pete to a lake once. While I
was trying to get ready, hooked up, and
the boat trailer lights all working, I guess
it was tiring, but once Pete saw all the lights
working, he said, what a world. We went riding
on the water. My 455 Olds was set up and stalked...
Then out of nowhere, there was a shallow "V" jet boat, about a 19',
with what looked like all the good stuff, and a badder built an' a little
bit faster, 454 Chevy. We got beat, but hung with him 'till we came
out of the fairly smooth cove, into some waves, and I shut it down,
to get thru them without beating us up. I had 5 people total in mine,
and the other boat, the driver runnin' solo. Pete never did go for a
ride with me. He probly would have, If there wasn't a small crowd.
He was a bit uneasy, and acted uncomfortable, around people he
didn't know. I took him a nice plate, with lean charcoal grilled BBQ
chicken, tater salad (lake salad), beans, bread, etc. and carried it
up the hill, to the picnic area, where he was standing around,
by himself...
EDIT
One nice afternoon, asked my friend, if he would like a smoke.
He looked serious and said NO! Why did you do that, why did
you just tempt me like that? I thought you might enjoy it, I
said meekly to him. No, that's a spiritual window, that I
don't want to open, he sternly replied... OK... I let it go...
I never bugged him, or insisted he do anything. Maybe that's
why he was comfortable with me, and trusted me. When I
asked him to climb up on the ladder, and help me build a
roof, he was right there, and was a good hand. He could
cut very well, on my Delta compound miter chop saw also,
and helped me get it done, framed and roofed, and we made
my first 'story board' pattern, for the end bay's 3-angle roofs ...
He also once said, it was a sweatshop at Decca Records too,
and we played so much, we wore our calices off. We
would have to stick them back on with skin glue...
EDIT
Then one day, he said he'd do the dishes, get them put in
to the dishwasher and run, because, "Nothing is so taxing,
as to come home from work, and have to do dishes". So he
did them one time, an English guy, in my kitchen doin' the
dishes, let's see, wonder if that could make a line, in a song.
There was definitely something different, and I know he
was hurtin', and deep in thought. He told me he had
been about 3oo lbs. at one time, and smoked 3 packs
of cigarettes a day...He was a fairly thin non-smoker
when I knew him...Said a friend had to get him out
of a house once, and that he and George, also had
properties, all over the country, including an
annual hangout place, in Florida...
EDIT
Also claimed to have helped write some of the
Beatles songs, that he carried a pencil and pad
with him all the time, and would give ideas he'd
written down to John. And, that he'd helped George
to write 'the book', because George couldn't even
go into a restaurant and eat, without someone
bugging him. By asking him questions about
events, or things that had happened with
the Beatles and all, so he could just refer
anyone inquisitive, to get 'the book',
often referring to "George and I"...
I also asked about the Eastern Religion, that
George had gotten into, and he said, 'we
got past all of that'...
Next To Last EDIT...
One morning I was asked about going to the
County jail, to play a few tunes with Asst. Pastor.
I turned him down, didn't want to. Pete said, "We
should go, maybe we could help them guys", and
I have always regretted not going to jail with him,
and I did wind up taking it for about 9 yrs.,
later on by myself anyway.
A few more things I thought of... If
it was Pete as he said, I know that
he enjoyed the peaceful time, in
the country with me. I believe
the time out, was good for his soul...
~ EDIT: One Last Added Thought...
...One day, unexpectedly, he followed me
to the back yard, while I was doing something,
and said, "You have to remember, we were
young and wild back then. Then without
thinking, or sitting down and going
into the thought, like I do wish I
would have now, I just said,
That's all of us...
Though, he did get a little bit
aggravated with me, the one time...
Because he kept telling me over and over,
when I'd say you... So he raised his voice once,
while we were working, and said, "a ewe is a baby lamb".
But that was the only time I did anything, to annoy him that much,
and that's just the way it goes, with the way things are said here,
different from the old countries, and that, Is The Rest of the story...
