Curious: Oldest dated artifact known. Book, coin or any item?

This is a 40,000 year old bracelet found in the Denisovian cave in Siberia. Found in context with bone needles that were radio carbon dated to 40,000 years ago.

Radio carbon dating is another debate if in fact its absolutely correct.

It's a very good topic.... especially as 'oldest' dates are regularly being thrown into contention and pushed further back into history...

As Napoleon said...."History is a lie agreed upon"

I didn't want to get into any science with this "oldest" thingy which is why I put mankind's stamp on it. I learned a lot personally. I had fun.

I think the way that American history is being dated further and further back into the past, is very interesting... the serpent mound etc.... All very intriguing

OLDEST DATED BOOK... 2893 years old: The Chinese ‘Diamond Sutra’ is indeed the oldest book carrying a physical date, equivalent to 868 BC.
That's Interesting about the Diamond Sutra Manuscript copy. It's from the Tang Dynasty, the Tang Dynasty was around 600-900AD (CE). The manuscript is still the oldest printed book.

Well at the top of my little screen on this little device it says it's 6:00 and I've just skimmed though many replies on this thread and this song just popped in my head.

My oldest bottle of Rum was one week old.
I've got a bottle of Crown Royal dated 1985.
ARC... Your post is pure speculation as it appears it's not dated by mankind.
But... newnan man dug up an ancient bottle of Crown Royal with a date put upon it.
Your bottle of Rum could be just days old, or hours, or minutes.... possibly just seconds..!

I will have you know... I have dug up a full bottle of Corona on a beach once.

Well sir that is quite impressive and truly a great find...? But since this is a man made and man dated thread for oldest objects it doesn't count. I'm afraid your bottle of Corona just doesn't count unless it dated and proven the world's oldest full Corona bottle. Now my dug up full bottle of Rum from deep in my Tennessee woods counts because it was dated 346AD. Let's move now.... :icon_thumright:
