I didn't want to get into any science with this "oldest" thingy which is why I put mankind's stamp on it. I learned a lot personally. I had fun.It's a very good topic.... especially as 'oldest' dates are regularly being thrown into contention and pushed further back into history...

It does rely on various factors for accuracy. Also it is most accurate in artifacts 60,000 years old or less. Contaminated or degraded samples are its biggest problem.Radio carbon dating is another debate if in fact its absolutely correct.
