Just heard this today for the first time and I REALLY like it!

I see similarities in the lyrics that correspond to Folks with Alzheimer Disease....

I was once the Department Head of Maintenance at a long-term care facility.
The facility had an Alzheimer's Section.

I made many Friends and on Saturdays would take one of my "wind-up" 78 rpm players in with a stack of Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, etc.

The spark, the light that I would see in their eyes as they listened to music that they were familiar with....

Well, let's just say that if I still had a player,
(3 sold-1 in a museum)

I'm old enough to know of "Pen Pal" chess games.

Before interwebs and FAST communication.

Mailing your chess move to a player from elsewhere in the world.

And including a little "goodie" such as the new 1 cent stamp or an uncirculated Lincoln cent.

A 1914-D.....

A game could take years to complete.....

Reminds me of when I worked for the Post Office.

Way back when.....

Part of my job was to make sure that stamps were cancelled to prevent another usage.

I bought about 6 cork stoppers and carefully cut them out to different patterns and took a GREEN ink pad with me to hand cancel stamps!

A fellow Philatelist was on my route and I lightly, yet firmly, applied my "Official" cancellations upon selected First Class mail for him to his delight!

Mr. knopfler inspired me as much as Hendrix, page, Clapton and Blackmore. I left out Van Halen, Randy Rhoads...but that is another story.


 

So today my wife is leaving on another cruise. There's a hurricane out there! She's had the flu been very sick for over 12 days. They were headed for Bermuda.......as is the hurricane. Does she listen to me? NO. I've been taking care of her and the boys and dealing with my knucklehead kids that think I still owe them something...... So we just got word the cruise line is changing. Itineraries because of the hurricane...... And she's leaving me in a mess to deal with. Said her sisters paid for this for her up and coming birthday. I said yeah birthdays are so important to you, kind of like you didn't even get me a birthday card this year for mine! So go be selfish, have your fun...... And I'll keep taking care of the boys, making ALL their baseball games like I always do..... Maybe when you get back, the boys and I can just walk away for a week! Oh and she's on another cruise in November with her employer.......they'll miss me when I'm gone...... I've become everyone's punching bag, but I'll take it for the boys
 

I think the boys and I will sneak out and enjoy some fine Japanese dining at Makotos.....no one to stop us hehehe

Hey, a boat is a horrible investment. Seriously.
Could even be considered selfish on top of that.
Maybe name it "Happy Birthday to Me *****"..or maybe not.
I need to keep an eye out for a flag pole holder , or two for ...a boat.
A guy has to have somethin...even if only a part to a boat in your case, just in case down the road it finds a home.8-)

RC you are a great friend. Get this buddy. They changed itineraries to Grand Turk, St Thomas, you know a southern route...... The news just updated us locally and my son just called me as I was watching the news; a cargo vessel off the coast if Puerto Rico with 33 crew members is unaccounted for...... Which would currently be at the tail end of the hurricane ! Call me a fool but you don't mess with Mother Nature. I mean why does this woman and 5 members of her family want to continue on this cruise? A death wish? I call them all SELFISH. I of course wish them all safety, but those if us back home are worried sick....... I hope it rains everyday not a ray of sunshine! Is this payment for 30 years of worrying about me? Nah she had a boyfriend in the beginning......long story. I'm a forgiving man, big heart

Found out yesterday one of my wife's friends is on the missing ship El Farro. We're hoping and praying the crew is found alive. Let's hope today brings some good news...

Oh my ! Wow brother.......small world. Prayers are with you guys!. Most vessels use a transponder so they can be tracked. I use a web site called Marine Traffic and I've been tracking my wife's cruise ship. Today they are north of Haiti. Damn DR brother I'll say some extra prayers for you guys. I really hate to hear that.....
