Help.

Trying to figure out the furnace filter "flow" direction.

This is my first time changing the filter since I moved in so I can only go by what was in there. My gut tells me the old filter was installed incorrectly. Not to mention it was a $4 piece of crap filter. My wife has asthma and we have cats so I bought a case of the allergen grade filters.

The arrow is supposed to point in the direction of the flow coming from the return duct to the blower motor up to the air vents. That is how I have my new filter installed pointing towards the blower motor. Does this sound correct?

Ben,

Sounds like you have it right, the air needs to be filtered prior to entering the house, and not in the return, if these are the filters that slide into the duct work, they are sometimes also one directional, and only will slide in one way.....good luck.....Gary

Not my bag of tea but I believe you to be right. Not my expertise either friend

Wish I could help Ben, but I only have a wood stove!

Ben,

Not sure but the instructions should be on the filter with the proper installation method.....another little trick is your wife suffers from allergies is buy some cheap filters and cut them to size and place them in the return airducts to filter out some of the impurities before they make it to the furnace ducts.

Good luck.

Squig,

Wood stoves are great heat, but cutting and splitting the 5-6 cord of wood got real old, and now here in Vt., my propane is considerably cheaper that dry wood at 250+ dollars per cord....I do envy you though, and I really miss my wood stove on the real cold windy days....Gary

I know what you mean Gary..we cut and split until couple of years ago..now pay 390.00 a cord uh!!

I can see why you would have used so much wood in a season..here we use only about Two cords..

I have a friend in NY, who heats his house and shop with one of those outdoor wood furnaces, and he goes through 10-12 cords per year. And that's not keeping the Bait shop business all that warm!

That's a scary thought..lol!

Sure is....I still need to cut and split5-6 cords per year for some customer's that stay here summers on Long Point, they need a fire if the Temp. goes below 60:dontknow:

Guess I am spoiled when it comes to the cold..Every few years we get a little and being a native ca person it just seems strange.
