CRISPINS CRITTERS

Man! I thought you'd never show up! LOL!
I gotta a leftover chicken marsala in the fridge, just waiting for some hot noodles to go with it.
Nice little salad, some more brie and cranberries and walnuts. Perhaps a glass of moscato, yep,
that should do me in! :laughing7:

Oh, and what kind of self respecting Amoeba Woman would be without a theme song!? :laughing7:

take it away bill.......

Folks,

Since patcat is going to feast and partake of some libations......

The Who - Summertime blues.

Nice to see that everyone had a lively Saturday! Just came in from the Lake, put the boat up, poured a tall Ezra Brooks, and started the grill,.......Potatos, with peppers and onions wrapped in foil, with venison backstrap and garden fresh tomatos. My buddp and his two dogs are on their way over from around the corner, and since both wives are out of town, we are going to honor them by eating and turning in by 8:00:laughing7: Sat on his shore today and watched 35-45 geese feed and sleep within 30 yards, and neither of us had our licenses with us, and the wardens were on patrol! We went and built three more duck blinds, and collected a boatload of driftwood, and worked the dogs, getting them tuned up for the hunting season.

Dogs are really mans best friend.....on the way back to shore, the little female Molly, who is in her first season, curled up in my lap, and snored all the way home to shore........hopefully be back after dinner.........Gary

Poor geese..they pair up for life!

They are also becoming a serious problem in some ares due to over population, and if you had to pressure wash docks and shores because of their leavings you would see the problem.....mothe nature doesn't spay and neuter.....and her method of control overpopulation is a whole lot worse than the hunter taking and utilizing a renewable resource. Not to preach, but unless you have walked into a winter deer yard here in the North Country, and counted upwards to a hundred dead whitetail deer, who due to over population, and exceededing the carrying capacity of their home range, lie dead....than the use of hunters would become clear. I spent many years doing dead deer tallys, and since I consider them one of the premier wild animals put on earth....it bothered me immensely.

Sorry Squig, you hit one of my hot buttons, but I have dedicated a career to making our natural, renewable resourses healthy and meaningful.........Gary

I understand Gary...I don't mind what animals leave behind ie droppings etc...but dead deer due to starvation is something else..

Squig,

I don't mind the leavings either, but some people with summer rental properties do. Problems always arise when Nature and people run into each other. Here in Vt., we have a famous artist, known for his paintings of cow....a sign of rural New England. His name is Woody Jackson, and I relate to him by seeing people moving here with the pastoral image of cows grazing in a lush green meadow.....and in reality, people have moved here, and when those cows started depositing their waste, and it was spread on the crop land as usual...they sued the farmer, because it lowered their quality of life, true story, and repeated several times......people will never be able to totally control Mother Nature, for whom I have the upmost regard, and they have to learn to live with nature, and properly manage it, and themselves....and not think themselves superior to it......Because in the end, my money is on Nature winning.....Gary

Guys,

Time to bow out for the evening, as always been great to be here, and 5:30 in the am, when I'm heading away from the lake, and into the Mtns for the day, will come quickly...chanterell mushrooms are ripe for the picking, and want to check some ginseng patches that I have been nurturing for years.....see you all tomorrow......Gary

Gary,

The balance of nature is a strange thing.....north of Montreal people who mean well buy 50lb bags of carrots and apples to feed deer thinking they're doing the right thing....mistake!

There are less predators and hunters than in bygone days and they risk starving during the winter due to overpopulation.

Sad but true.

Regards + HH

Bill

Bears an example of nature losing when we build /impose on traditional habitat.
I have personally witnessed people freaking out when blackie simply strolled down the road in front of them.Is there any way thats his fault?
One collared bear died on an a guy i knews property, likely shot 4 a.m. one morning on my way to work,(heard a ''''wang " sounding shot, like inside a pole building.)
Bears lose just because they are bears around here.I have been excited at close range with them while armed but threat was not their goal or purpose at the time. Trust them no, but kill them over their presence or fear, no.

I'm back from the Rez safe and semi sound.... Mr. DJ... Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss me, Kill Me, by U2 please? What a weekend with all sorts of different types of treasure hunting. Mama Backbacon has a firm grip on her Geiger Counter and we had a great first hunt together. I hope everyone is still well and enjoying this fine Saturday night.

Hey, glad fun was had with that ole Geiger counter...lol! Bet she loved the hunt! :)
