Great is an understatement! That's badass TreasureFiend!!

Got 4 more boxes of dimes today, so far I've got 2 silvers in 3 boxes... Hopefully I can make up ground in the last box.

Good luck!!!! I have 4 more half boxes that came in today and I will do them in the morning, hopefully I can find a lot more!!! :icon_pirat:

Four more boxes of dimes yesterday. The first box yielded two rosies right at the beginning. Then nothing until the second to last roll of the fourth box! Man that was a long wait... basically opening 10,000 dimes before getting one silver. Luckily that one silver was a Merc in pretty decent shape.

Awesome job, I love pullin those Merc's!!! I am still doing my 4 half boxes, I will post what I found once done (like an hour). :icon_pirat:

My 4 boxes of halfs today, I also have 4 boxes of pennies that I will do tonight.

Geez I can't wait until the weather breaks and you guys stop tearing me up with these ! Great going Fiend! You too Brett!

Dude, two walkers in one box! Sweeet! You're killing me here with those halves. I really haven't done ANY halves this year yet. I've only done 16 boxes of dimes so far. Tim, as fun as this is, I can't wait until the ground is not frozen anymore!

I am now on the fence!!! Detecting is fun, but hunting over 300 hours last year and getting meager finds is really disappointing. Places where I hunt are pounded to death and I concider it a good day when I get 1 Wheatie. I love finding silver. I will still detect, but I want to do more bottle dump digging and a ton more CRH'ng.

Keep 'em rolling! With finds like that, it might be hard to go back to coil swinging!

I guess for me, ordering boxes, going to the bank... sweet talking the tellers, dumping the duds and waiting for the 90 pound girl to change the 80lb bag, unrolling countless numbers of coins to get one or two silvers, while very rewarding in terms of silver output, is just a lot of boring work. Researching good sites, setting up the detector for best performance, hunting and retrieving the loot is more like a fine dance. It's even MORE work, but it doesn't really feel like it. I think that's because there's more of art to MD than CRH. Don't get me wrong, I'm excited when I get a merc CRH'ing, but I just don't feel like it deserves a high five or anything.

Maybe if I found an old site that hasn't been pillaged since the 60's that would be loads fun. But going out for 7-8 hours and getting a few coins wore off pretty quick (most of the time not even that). I will still detect a lot, but come night fall I will be doing my CRH'ng. I don't know how may hours I have spent looking at old areal photos, looking at old pix, then walk out to a sight and get next to nothing for my troubles. Then to find out that that place has been someone elses silver piggy bank for years and years and years. Nah, I need to go out farther west to hunt.

Finding a Merc is fun and all but what I want is older coins. My oldest coin last year was a, 1894 IH. Thats cool too but I want older.

I was also going to add, it's really hard to come across really old coins in GREAT shape CRH'ing... I've dug only a few mercs out MD'ing and they were all way better looking than the CRH'd ones I've found. Not to mention it's going to take a long time before you get some 1800's silver CRH'ing.

I agree though, there will be time to CRH all year round... but I won't be doing it nearly as much as I am now.

I agree 100%, the quality of coins from CRH'ng is no where near the quality you can find MD'ng (dropped while brand new), I am just CRH'ng for mostly silver to melt (I will keep the Mercs, Walkers, & Franklins for my collection). It is just a way to get my fix till I can dig something again. I am really gonna try to get a lot of bottles this year and more beach hunts.

Kermit,

Brother, you are going to get your @ss up and detect the woods this year with us, if I've gotta sit at your doorstep and picket for an hour! :director: Send the SE in, get it back, test it out, and get back out there! And I don't want to hear no jibber jabber! Are you trying to tell me poison ivy, big spider webs, mosquitoes, and stickers are going to keep you from finding a few wheats and mercs??

LOL, I'm just busting your chop! You've done exceptionally well CRH'ing these last few months, it's ben fun seeing what you've found. Especially the old halves and your "first" Barber dime. Me on the other hand...I'm looking forward to digging again. There's nothing like digging a real oldie in the middle of the woods, with the sights, sounds, and smells of nature. I guess being trapped in a laboratory all day helps me to appreciate being outdoors more anyway...but anyway. I will show you the bottle dump I found, you will have a field day. Just please be careful, there are bottle sticking out of the ground everywhere, wedged in tighter than Austin Powers' Fazsha! I'm still only able to use one hand, the other is in a brace. Four more weeks of occupational therapy, no joke. It seriously sucks. Also, if you still plan on picking up a water detector this year, we need to hit the beaches for sure. I know I'm ready, as soon as the hand is.

Are we still getting together as a group for wings any time soon???

Joe

I agree with Joe bud, you've got to send that SE in for a checkup, and now's the perfect time. Just remember that feeling you got when you dug that SLQ. I still feel the thrill, and I'm not the one that pulled it out from under that root.
Mike
