coyote management

my goodness....just remove or restrict the food source that is attracting them.this is a war you will not win.but for an attractive food source that is attainable...they arent there...food for thought....and btw...I have shot my share...not sayin you dont have a right to

I do not want to get into it much but I do not kill animals for fun or the thrill. I have said this before on other threads and so have many others. The main reason I shot any predators is because of my livestock. They have destroyed whole flocks of birds in one night. If they do not bother me I do not bother them.

To the OP, you said you have dogs right? What kind of dogs? I have a few labs and a german shepard and they keep the coyotes at bay for the most part.

My goodness........I was lookin for realistic ideas for solving a prob that I haven't thought of.....how are u going to tell the deer to stop having fawns? Tell the turkeys to go away? Maybe tell your neighbor to move his/her cows??? Get real....its not like they r gettin n my trash cans. That's what my bird dogs do:...

Yep 2 spaniels....they r n pens though n also a lab/dalmation mix (yard dog).....if the previous post were read though I said that they were not coming into the yard (n a round about way, no knocked over trash cans) so why the inquiry

Yep. 17/.223/.270/.30-06/.300 works good...only one shot required if administered correctly. Don't worry bout overdosing them either

borlamm,

I surely didnt intend to minimise your problem.I have lived through it.I have lost my laying ducks and my chickens in the past. The absolute worst was when my wife was out in the lower yard with our beloved chihuahua.I wont get into it,wounds pretty fresh. What I am saying that a campaign of denial and intimidation worked for me even after a frontal assault failed.I have no complete answer for you.Believe me no one does.I feel your plight and man am I hoping you solve it.

Denial of advantage was the only thing that worked for me.Even after blasting a dozen of em...just sayin

Yep .. My Nikon with wide optical zoom .......... only one shot to get a good picture .. then no harm to anybody or living thing...........

I would get with DNR first and see what control methods are best used and prescribed. If you own cattle, you do what you have to. Some animals can over populate and start eating each other. This doesn't sound the case. Hamburger is a $1.89 a pound, no reason to be shooting critters if you dont have too. If they get too friendly around a house, they got to go.

Just something I noticed...

After seeing that large black cat.. I didn't hear any coyotes for over two weeks?

You could get a pet panther.. it might help?

hard to relive these bad memories but my buddy tried to poisen them.he killed his best buddy,a golden retriever. He still not over it and its been bout ten years.what ever you do,and I hope you succede, please dont chance the pain my bud still endures. The truth is I endure some pain from watching the ones I shot succomb.horrible to watch.
a true dilema and I am so glad that my program of denial has worked.guess I am lucky...dunno

Pet panther does sound like a good idea lol....I have no prob shooting them though n if ya wound them then just reload fast. Like I said though poising isn't an option....I've herd too many bad stories about that approach. So I guess I guess need more bullets then...

Ok, we had a rabies problem maybe 20 years ago or so and poison was dropped from planes and did its work, but probably killed a bunch of other stuff. My favorite, and I don't even know if you can get it anymore, is bait hooked to a shotgun shell. Grab the bait, kaboom. Tie up the dogs and I guarantee it will work.

Any idea where to get it? Or is it more like a bait rigged to a string that is connected to a shotgun?

where as i can agree with the one saying not to take a living life and it is human error that has caused alot of this, people have to understand coyotes can be like cockroaches . i normally live by the rules my father taught me and his father taught him and i in turn teach my children , only kill for food or necessity . our ancestors have been doing it forever , i will not get into the moral issues of hunting because i know not every one shares the same view , but coyotes can be harmful , i have lost a cocker spaniel to them as well as my father losses fowl almost weekly to them, and in rare and it is a very rare case, i have seen on the news of them carrying off a child , or trying to.
i have no problem with people killing them because as several people have pointed out , it is impossible to wipe them out 100%. if you dont believe me do some research , there numbers are greater now then almost ever .

i have heard the electronic rabbit calls work very well , as well as hunting over their den .

Folks lets quit with the killing talk. This is a Treasure Hunting site and is moderated as such.Obviously people dont think before they post and many have no clue what they are talking about
